What draws you to look at a photo?

February 1st, 2011
I was just sat here looking through peoples photo's and i realised i seem to be drawn to shots of animals and the sky more than anything else, what would draw you too look at a particular photo?

I don't look for any particular subject but am drawn to any image that I find interesting, for many different reasons: its intrinsic or artistic beauty, its information content, topicality, technical excellence, compositionh, etc. I see photographs primarily as elements of information, sometimes needing no words or reason and at other times providing a basis for as much or as little text as may be appropriate.

I find myself drawn to nature, textures, buildings, colors, composition and processing. I notice I don't view many "people" pics or animals unless there's something incredibly "artsy"

I tend to find myself looking at other people's versions of the sort of shots I normally take. I like to look at the exif data to see how they've created the shot & hopefully I can learn something and improve my future shots in the process.

Patterns/designs/textures. I notice I tend to take a lot of shots of them because it is the type of photograph I enjoy seeing. Like a close up of a seashell or a leaf to see the designs. I love macros. That's all there is to it lol

I like looking at all kinds of photos - but here on 365 specifically...the title is sometimes what piques my interest. I also try to title my photos in a way that makes someone think of why I called it what I did. :) My photo of a girl on a railroad track called "her thinking spot" would NEVER have become so popular on this site if I had titled it "railroad tracks."

@hdoyle I think animal pictures attract a lot of people. I have two pictures of my pets and they’re the only photos of mine that have made the popular page.

i love looking at shot of human emotion. also, soft colors, with textured overlays and almost a glowy feel too it draw me in....if that makes any sense at all :)

@sburbidge Thats a great idea i mayt try that in future!

I like all kinds but I've noticed that sharp contrasts and vibrant colors usually catch my eye. Also, more singular items rather than busy pics.

The artistry of the photo, less if it is obviousely photoshopped.

I love bright colours, macro images, nice scenes, human emotion. I tend to look through latest and new faces and then pics catch my eye:-)

I tend to lean toward very soft portraits. I think because I can't do them yet. I also like wild animal shots in a natural pose.
February 1st, 2011
Composition, shots of natural non-posed shots of people, stuff that hasn't been ludicrously shopped and mainly, stuff that makes me think "wow, how do I do that?!?"

Quality.

Bright colors draw my eye faster than anything else.. Then anything with interesting lines.. Critter shots get my attention really quick too because they're usually really good for an easy smile..

1. Flowers, 2. Colors, including pastel colors, 3. Good composition. 4. Animal shots, especially bird shots (as I am trying to improve mine).

Oops. Also architecture. (Make that #4) and animal shots #5.

I like colours and seeing something interesting. I'm also more likely to look if there's a description to go with it. I like the stories almost as much (if not more than) the photos. :-)

Colours, faces and animals. Especially close-ups of the last two

I'm drawn to really bright colors, busy cites, cool architecture, rustic/vintage stuff, and fresh/crisp pictures. Sort of a mix, but if you look at my favs you'll definitely see a trend lol.

I am drawn to photos that are different, that are Marco- close ups, things that pop and stand out from the rest.

I love looking at sunsets, sunrises and beach scenes. They're my favourite but I do have a wide range that draw me in. Birds are another one as I hate trying to photo them myself and I'm always in awe of how others can capture them so clearly and sharply.
