Hahnel Giga T Pro wireless remotes - battery life question

February 11th, 2011
Hi chaps and chapesses,

I have one of those doohickies, and it's rather splendid. Had it since last October (so just over four months), last used it earlier today, but have just gone to use it and the remote half won't switch on.

The camera half switches on fine with a long-press of the correct button. The remote half usually turns itself on with a press of any of its buttons, so it's kinda in a standby state all the time; but now it won't.

Am wondering if anyone else has experience with these, and whether four months is reasonable lifespan for the remote part? Retardedly, the remote half is a sealed unit, requiring some special screwdriver to get at the battery. The still-fine camera half has a readily removable one.

Battery likely to be dead, or unit likely to be broken?

Either way, no way to get it working by tomorrow, I guess ._.

Is the tool required to open the remote hard to come by? What type of battery does it take? You might be well off to try and test a new battery. Assuming you can get it open.

Not sure @crappysailor and I'm off skiing for the next 6 days so won't get chance to check in short order, so thought I'd see if anyone here had issues in the meantime.

@eyebrows - do you have the unit with you?

Ah, I see. You wanted to use it while away. I was just doing a quick search for the tool that might be used. But I suppose it won't help your current situation. Sorry my friend. Enjoy skiing.

Hey @crappysailor I appreciate you doing a search! Nice of you, thanks man :) I figure there'll be ski shops and they might have tools of many descriptions so... there's a chance I might find something out there. We'll see.

Thanks guy :D
