On a thread some weeks back someone reccomended me a good book to read about photography and i can't remember what it was! I've been looking at
The Digital Photography Book - Scott Kelby to help me figure using my dslr thanks in advance for any advice!
I read "Exposure" by Jeff Wignall and found it amazingly informative. At the end of every chapter is an assignment to practive what you've learned. It's part of the Photo Workshop series. I bought it on Amazon.com if you want to check out the reviews.
Yep, Exposure is pretty much the photography bible if you really want to learn about how photography works. But that Scott Kelby book is also excellent, but it helps more with making the most of your photos after you've taken them. I have that book as well and it really helped streamline my post processing.
@michellepj - Understanding exposure is really quite a good read. You ccan find the link to it, from time to time, on the right hand side of this page. I'm sure the click through helps the site out.
@spaceman - American Psycho is always a must read.
@spaceman haha, well played @cariadon I have all 3 scott kelby books, the next two in the series deal more with studio and portrait photography, if you are looking for something along those lines. They have helped with other aspects but the concentrate on the studio setting.
@spaceman - just make sure your lawyer knows who you are. This way there isn't any confusion. :-P
One of my favorite books of all time. Every time I've read it, it was just as powerful as the first. Although, none of his other work has lived up to it.
I really liked David du Chemin's "Within the Frame: The Journey of Photographic Vision". Also "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson. Check this website out for some cool ebooks which you can download for US$5. www.craftandvision.com
actually if you want to be picky recommendation is a word in the english dictionary! (recommendations is not!) but thanks for the reccomendation (lol) of the photographer's eye and @penny for the ones you reccomended -cheers
On Photography, Susan Sontag, an old one, but it was required reading when i was at university and it makes you think about what a photo is. Maybe i'm stuck in the past...
@vikdaddy I’ve seen “spelled” spelled as “spelt” several times on this website. I’m an American, and I’ve never seen “spelt” until starting this project. I love the nuances of language.
The How To Photograph Absolutely Everything book was used in my college and I really liked it so bought myself it. It's came in really handy at times when I needed help
In Cold Blood-Truman Capote
American Psycho-Brett Easton Ellis
Understanding Exposure-Bryan Peterson
It covers a lot - but at a beginning level and I've found it easy to follow. @cariadon

So true, that book made me realise what my goal in life is.And no,it`s not the "being rich and fancy suits" part ..... :)

thanks for all the recommendations for the photography books i will start on them!
But seriously, try Michael Freeman's 'The Photographer's Eye'; it's the best book about photography I've read.
Here's a list of all his books
