Im pulling my hair out trying to work this program out . All i want to do is ( the reason i brought it ) .... black n white with partial colour affect....
so i thought i would put it out there for someone to help me out seeing i cant work it out for myself or understand any of the tutorials on how to do it.
so if anyone knows how to do it i would muchly appreshicate if u could help me out.
I am struggling with Elements too. Every time I use it I feel like my brain will explode. I was trying to do the same thing Brenda was trying & failing...
Like http://365project.org/unionofv/365/2010-03-19 ? I don't think Elements has Layer Masks (pity) so the best way is two make two layers of the same photo, convert the top layer to black and white ("desaturate" or whatever) and carefully use the rubber tool add colour (ie remove the black-and-white layer).
You can select the area you want to leave in colour using one of the lasso tools or the selection tool. Then go to Select -> Inverse. Once you have done that go to Enhance -> Convert to Black and White, and adjust to your liking then OK and deselect the area (Command or Control D) and you're done!
From what I remember, Elements is probably the easiest to use editing program that doesn't skimp on features. It might seem complicated, but after a while it becomes routine. Like for example, fixing exposure really just involves moving two sliders, but you've got to know you're looking for the "Levels" tool - once you find it you'll never forget it though.

I was considering getting Elements 8, but now I am afraid. It seems complicated?
