Suggestion:"view large" only for members

February 17th, 2011
Some people might browse around on photo websites only to save the photos or maybe "steal" them,with simple methods such as screen capture software (even Windows 7 has one,Snipping Tool)..
I know photo-piracy has been discussed a million times before,and if some low-life wants to steal your photo,he will find a way,but still,wouldn`t you feel a tiny bit safer if the "view large" button would only work for people signed up here?

Agree'd

BRILLIANT IDEA @scrivna

Agreed.

Its a great idea and will help towards things a bit - but there are a few members here who fav photo's but dont take part in the project, be it upload or comment. The slightly cynical person in me wonders what they are up to and...... whats to stop the stealing anyway?
February 17th, 2011
yeah good idea
February 17th, 2011
I agree too. I'd also like it to work. I have not been able to scroll down on the photos at all.

@blightygal - really? Thats interesting. I had noticed some time ago, people joining, and then advertising for various photo services. Ross summarily got rid of them (thanks!). But I hadn't noticed this. Thanks.

@dmortega
Press F11 so you browse in full screen,and then if you "view large" ,you`ll the the whole photo.
February 17th, 2011
@spaceman --- Thank You!!!!
February 17th, 2011
@dmortega --- Hmmm .... it does show bigger but the scroll still doesn't work.
February 17th, 2011
@dmortega
But if your browser is full screen,on view large,scroll isnt needed. I can see it all,or maybe that`s just me.I don`t know,maybe it depends what resolution the PC is set on (mine is 1280x1024)
February 17th, 2011
That is a fantastic idea indeed!!!
February 17th, 2011
Hmmmm ... could be however the scroll bar moves but the screen doesn't. That's a different issue.
February 17th, 2011
yeah, great idea

Paid members or normal members? Because it takes all of 5 seconds to create a free account...

@hmgphotos not that i personally have any photos worth stealing but i agree you should probably make it for paid members only. it would make it more difficult for those that want to steal.
February 17th, 2011
@hmgphotos
Normal members.Some thievs might just get discouraged by the small "bump" and maybe move on to search for other sites to steal from.I know it`s not a solution,it`s just an idea.

@jessicapena
That would be cool,but so unfair.There are many people who never even had a Paypal account or anything similar,yet,like me.

@spaceman True....maybe make it a little "bumpier" by say... snatching the IP address or making it un-downloadable like on Smugmug? I can understand why some people would want to be able to protect their photos and it would be cool if we as a community could figure out how to do it :)
February 17th, 2011
@jessicapena I would love to see some of the protection like on SmugMug. Disable right click to save and display a warning about copyright protection if they persist!
February 17th, 2011
Sorry to burst your idea, but that won't really solve the problem. As a web developer, it took me less than two seconds to figure out the naming scheme, err, which I won't explain further. Disabling the button wouldn't affect this method. I'm a good guy too and hate the thieves.

There's really no way to prevent theft, except for not posting it online. Unfortunately, then you don't share great photos or get to discuss how to get interesting shots. A catch-22? Enjoy taking photos and sharing them. That's all you can hope for.

That sounds like a great idea.
