Copyright/Watermark

February 18th, 2011
I'm getting ready to get myself in the habit of copyright/watermarking my photos....

How did you choose your copyright/watermark name? Your name vs creative title? I don't have a business, this is my creative outlet..

Love to hear every one's thoughts and ideas.

I've used catheniale as an identifier for myself for years (my email address, etc) so I used that for my watermark as this is also just for fun for me. I =f I were a professional photographer, even if this was just my creative outlet, I'd probably make a watermark associated w/ my business name.

@catheniale Thanks Catherine..I often wondered what inspired some of those awesome creative watermark/copyrights! :D

How do you watermark your photos?

@warmbreeze43 I have a copy of Lighroom 3 and it has a watermark feature. I usually only remember to watermark the pics I put in Lightroom to adjust color saturation. A bunch of my friends are using Picnik to do it (free program).

Also, a few weeks ago I saw a topic on here about How to Watermark/Why you should Watermark.

well you know mine was really hard...lol

just went with my user name cos I'm not very creative, but it is what it is. Good luck with yours!

I made the mistake of not watermarking on a few and found them on an add by a big company, so now water mark everything and embed in picture with Digimark, there is always somebody stealing photos and calling them theres, even on here.

the Asrai are water spirits that dissolve into pools of rainbow light when they are captured or exposed to the sun, so with capture, exposure, rainbows light and living near the sea, Asrai photography just sounded right :D

Mine's just my initials. I made a basic paintbrush in photoshop elements so I can place it anywhere I want.

i just use my initials and a flower shape i found in picnik....
i feel silly marking them, but you never know..just bc i don't think they're steal-worthy doesn't mean someone else doesn't

I am not a professional by any means- simply like to take pictures. Reading these recent posts about copyrights and people stealing images...would you suggest that everyone watermark? Mine are not exactly worthy of stealing, but, you never know when you might have that one great shot.

@lbaker from everything I've read in past threads...the general consensus is, watermark/copyright your photos. Even if you don't deem them worth of stealing..

Thanks to everyone for the feedback and sharing. I'm off to learn about watermarking now and brainstorm my "signature".. probably use my user-name too..haha

@celticmystyc I started watermarking mine after reading some of the threads on here, I just add text using picnik. I don't think mine are worth stealing, same as others on here, but it's better safe than sorry - no-one can claim they didn't think it belonged to someone if it's watermarked.
