My granddaughter has been following my 365 project since the first of the year. She is interested in my photos and in the photos posted to the site and often looks at them with me. She can already figure out where the popular page is and how to view people's photos. When I had my P&S, I would often download photos to find a whole bunch of photos I didn't take. It didn't take long to figure out that the dozen pictures of webkinz or yummy food were taken by her.
So she wants to do this project and needs a camera. Any suggestions for me?
I just bought my 6 yr old a Kodak , I know I know! Im ashamed to admit it.. lol
.. Kodak easy share CD 83 , P/S 14 mp and it takes good shots.. he worked it out in under a day, and it was only $49.99 from Big Lots.
Sale ends Monday 21st so if you want to have a look.. just google Big lots and look at their ad.. its a good little camera.. has video on it too.
Wow better than my waterproof digi! Have to get one for my kiddo, yeah for my kid but hey when he isn't using it I can sure use it at the water park pool ect... LOL
@nikkers I found a Kodak as well a couple years ago for 48.00 on clearance in Sears and it was pink, so that fit the criteria for my, at the time 8 year old. She loves it.
@nikkers@lislee75 I'll second that, Our local school uses Kodak easyshares, east to use & takes good photos (for a p&s), Had one myself & liked it. Only recommendation is get one with a li-Ion OR buy rechargeables (the damn camera eats battery's).
@nanascraps Choice between cheap or tough, though a lot of cheaper ones are pretty resilient.
Getting a bargain budget no name one from a store like tescos, best buy or walmart could be a good plan, I picked up a 3MP fixed lens camera from tescos years ago when 3MP was still not bad and everyone loved megapixels.
It took constant beatings and never failed me.
Fixed lens models aren't great but they have a big advantage in durability since the most fragile pieces are the lens mechanisms. They usually have a macro lever that moves the focus close and that's it.
For something nice Fuji's line of colourful cameras with the sliding front are still pretty tough, cheap and take really good photos. Coolpix are also good for the price but aren't the most resilient of cameras.
The ruggedized ones people have linked to above are tough, but so is a nine year old when it comes to abusing stuff, weighing up how hard breaking one of them is vs. pricing is the main thing.
Thanks for posting that. I guess this camera is yet to be released for sale but it looks like it can take just about anything. She likes it in purple (go figure) which is minus the GPS feature - which is fine, I think as sometimes the GPS drains the battery pretty quickly.
lol...that's kind of what I thought when I first was reading it, but I admit I'm intrigued by this camera enough to check it out. Both recommendations (the Panasonic and the Pentax are comparable in price - about $350.00. I appears to be indestructible but hopefully she won't lose it?
@nanascraps Its hard to make the leap of faith with the kids isnt it.. get a cheaper ok one, that will need to be looked after a bit more.. or get the expensive one, that will last a good while but if they lose it.. ugh!! with my 6 yr old is it was no contest the cheaper one lol :)
There truly isn't a 'rush' except that we are going to Disney for spring break on March 26th and I thought it would be nice for her to have it then. I can preorder from Amazon, I think. It looks like the release date might be March 21st?

Going to check out the other recommendation now.
