Just have to share my happiness!

February 22nd, 2011
So, I have been lusting for a DSLR for months, but at my level of skill could not justify the purchase.

Well, I decided to try to find a nice used one, as a starter, on ebay. I won the auction and the camera arrived today. Fuji Finepix, with:
1 Digital (58) mm (pl) lens

1 Digital (58) mm (fld) lens

1 stepping ring

1 Digital High Definition ( 0.5 X WIDE ANGEL LENS)

1 Digital Definition ( 2 X TELEPHOTO LENS)

1 (OPTEKA) 2.2 HIGH DEFINITION ( TELEPHOTO LENS ) 55mm

1 QUANTARAY FILTER (YELLOW) Y2 NOTE> This is used for Black And White Photography.

(1) 256 mb memory card

(1) 16 mb memory card

1 Leather lens case

1 lint free cleaning cloth

1 Camera strap

1 Computer lead

1 TV lead

All for less than $200. I am over the moon!

So, who wants to give me tips? :)

I like Cannon cameras! But great find I'm happy for you. I'v been thinking about trying penny auctions to get a new camera but not sure yet.

YAY! Congrats, your new toy sounds like fun! Can't wait to see what you do with it!

oh you asked for tips... i would definately play with shooting both raw and jpeg if possible as that will teach you a lot about your camera's sensor. also if it did not come with a manual you should be able to download one from the internet i would spend time really going over that learning all you can.

That is so exciting!! I looooove new toys, and I'm happy for you even without knowing you! Have fun, and just play with your camera. It's really not hard to read about aperture and shutter speed and learn that way, and just combine that with practice. you will have it down before long. :)

Congrats! This may sound dumb but is a dslr the kind you change lenses on?
February 22nd, 2011
@positronicmommy not dumb at all, that is how you learn :) yes, you can change the lenses, so I have a few to play with. Truth be told, I am a little intimidated, but super excited!

@cfrantz thanks for the suggestion about the manual, it did not come with one, so I will be sure to look for it online!

Congratulations - so happy for you. It's great to have a place to share your happiness with people who know how you feel :-)

I love my dslr and lenses. Once a week I try to learn something new - there's so much to know. Once a week I go for a walk and take my camera with one lens only. I'm forced to learn what that lens can do. As a wildlife photographer I usually always have my big lens so having a little one is a challenge for me. It makes me look in different places for shots and I see things I likely would never have looked.

Can't wait to see the shots from your baby :-)
