365 on holiday (mobile apps, etc)

February 26th, 2011
As some may be aware, if they've been following my recent pictures, I have been on holiday all of last week with my family...

Obviously, having time off work, and being in new and different locations has been great, from a photography point-of-view - but, I'm afraid, not so great from a 365 website point-of-view!

We didn't have any internet in the cottage where we were staying, which made keeping up with 365 uploads understandably difficult... So, I just wanted to take you through the method I had to use in order to get a photo online here every day...

Having taken the photo on my Nikon, I then transferred it onto my MacBook from the SD-card, and edited it in Photoshop, if I felt it needed that... Then I'd have to import the finished version into iPhoto, and place it in my iPhoto Album which is reserved for 365 images... Then I could sync that album, and get the image onto my iPhone, from where I could email the photo into the 365 website...

Naturally, emailing the picture took quite a while, over just a GPRS connection, but when that was done, I'd have to go into my 365 Project in Safari on my iPhone and override the settings for mobile browsers by disabling the Mobile Site, so I could get to the "Organise Uploads" page, which apparently is only available through the Full Site! Having added a title, description, and tags, I could save my picture to be published on the site, and then go back to the Dashboard and re-enable the Mobile Site in order to view my picture, and comment on other people's...

It did occur to me, as I was doing all this every day, that an official 365 Project For iPhone App would be very helpful indeed... Perhaps with the option to upload pictures, write captions, comment, reply (you can't use the @-replies in the Mobile Site at the moment) and view photos all within the app...

But I'd be interested to see how many other people agree... If this app were available, would I be the only person using it? Or are there hundreds of people who use this site, wishing they could be more active on it from their phones?

Funny you should post this topic. I was literally thinking about this only a few minutes ago =D I would use it for sure. I congratulate you for going through that everyday to upload your photo. I think after 5minutes on the first day I'd have given up and thought bugger it. I'll just upload them all when I get home!!

That sounds like a LOT of trouble. I use my android to upload pics taken with it to Facebook to keep family and friends updated. But those are just phone pics.

I'm going away for a week in June and haven't decided whether to bring my laptop or not as I will access to wifi. If not, I'll just upload all my daily pics when I come home. The dates will be correct anyway.

So impressed that you went to that trouble everyday, and I agree 100%. I'm not on vacation but sometimes you just need that convenience. I can check my facebook page throughout the day when I have a second. It would be nice to connect to my 365 project the same way comment on pictures or conversation threads. Then on those days when I do take a picture with my iphone I could upload directly to the site. Right now if I take a pic on my phone I transfer it to my desktop, and then to the 365. This site has been so user friendly especially with the link to facebook that I was surprised they didn't already have the iphone app. I looked for one when I signed up. Maybe one is in the works?
