Laptop Crash :-(

March 2nd, 2011
I won't be online for a while. My laptop got a nasty virus and I refuse to pay $300 to fix it. So until I buy a new one, I won't be online :-( It's only been 2 days and I'm going insane. Thankfully i was able to save most of my photos before I got the blue screen of death. Hope to see you all again really soon.

@melmellow If your laptop will allow you to install programs then download:

http://www.malwarebytes.org/ - download the free version - this will remove the nasty little virus

http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner - This keeps your laptop neat and tidy and removes any un-needed files

http://free.avg.com/us-en/download-free-antivirus - Free anti-virus software.

If the laptop won't let you install anything, then reboot and whack the F5 or F8 key repeatedly on boot-up, one of them should show you the boot menu. Pick 'Safe Mode - with networking' and carry on booting up. You'll get a screen with massive icons, but you should be able to install the applications above and fix your laptop.

@edpartridge Good advice, Had the same happen to me on Sunday. Booted into safe mode downloaded Malwarebytes - Had to uninstall Anti Virus before installing it though. Installed then ran Malware bytes, booted back into Windows, Reinstalled Anti Virus and I'm Back!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)

And if the above doesn't work, download and install ubuntu. (A Linux operating system) You won't be able to use photoshop or lightroom, but you can use gimp. And it's really not that hard to use. My mom uses it.

If you were able to save your photo's then time to format!!!!!!!! And if Format doesn't work, buy a new HardDrive for 40$ and reinstall windows.

Of course only do this if EDs links don't work. Malwarebytes is fantastic.
