I know this is all about the pictures, and mostly for people who want to get better at photography, but I saw this and saw a chance.
A chance to see the world and myself in another way... in a new light... from a different perspective. People so often think that there's a method to photography, and there is to some extent, but it's about the view... not the mechanics.
I joined for a different reason. I wanted to change my view.
Of myself.
I've been reading on here and there are a lot of people on here that are discouraged... I'm sorry. But it's not about them, it's about you. Your pictures are for you... and it's a bonus when other people like them too. Make yourself happy. --That's what really matters.
This project is about me. I am not going to back down, or let myself not post. I refuse to feel bad that my pictures aren't great, or that I am the only subject-- I'm the subject for a reason.
I want to see myself differently, I want to learn to look at myself differently.
But whatever your project, be happy about yourself, your pictures are for you.
I have found myself a little discouraged by seeing other people and how amazing their photos are. Then when I look, a lot of them are photoshopped, and that makes me feel a lot better. I only got my SLR at Christmas, so I haven't really got used to it yet, or learnt a lot of things I need to know about photography, but this doesn't really fit in with a degree. Sometimes I'm tired, and sometimes I just have no idea whatsoever what to take a photo of, but I am utterly determined to make it through!
I started this project to help me to get to know my camera, rather than it being a rather expensive gift that I rarely use. I have already seen an improvement in my photography, which was the point. I joined this site to (hopefully) get some constructive criticism on my shots and help me see where I need to improve. I guess we all have our own reasons for doing it :)
@cally -- this is more than true. I'm glad that you are enjoying your experience... and you're right...
I hope your journey continues to benefit you.
Enjoy your camera!!!
@lysfriday amen, sistah. sometimes it is hard to remember those basic principles because things get mucky. but I love your philosophy and will be looking forward to seeing your project!
Funny, I had similar sentiments in the post before this one! I'm glad I took this journey, and I'm happy with the people I've met or run into along the way!
Just remember we all have photographs that we look at and go "oh wow I wish I was that good" we are whether you are a seasoned photographer or just starting out, our own worst critics. We all go through stages where we are discouraged but the idea for that is to go past that and develop your own style and technique that works for you. There are some amazing and fantastic talented people on this site who I hold in awe and some of them don't even know how fantastic they are
@eyebrows -- I honestly don't know where it came from... I took like a hundred, and that was the first one...
Thank you
And your pictures are wonderful!
I'm enjoying just taking photos of whatever catches my fancy during the day. I haven't had any case of photo block yet. The last several days, opportunities have popped in front of me. It's been fun, and that's what matters.
So true, when I have a bad day like today and I dont take a photo til nearly 11pm and Im half asleep I just say "365 Project is for Me no one else and its not a competition" x
I totally agree. I started this project as a distraction while my husband is deployed. It's been nice to see some folks like pictures that are near and dear to me. Do I hope to make the popular page one day? Sure...but I"m having fun taking pics regardless!
@lysfriday Finally! Thank you for finally saying this. It has been a long time coming! I am so tired of reading threads filled with complaints about the site, how it works, the people here, etc. I 100% agree with you! Well said!!! =)
