Canon Rebel XSi

March 3rd, 2011
I'm looking to purchase my first DSLR and the Canon Rebel XSi is what I have my eye on. I am new to photography and enjoy it as a hobby. I don't have plans to use photography as a business.

For XSi users, are you happy with the camera? Do you wish you purchased anything different?

Bottom line, I want to capture great shots with control that a point and shoot cannot offer and not outgrow the camera wanting something bigger/better in 3 or 5 years. I'd like to spend around $1000 for the camera w/ lens kit as I've seen it sold plus a backpack, extra battery and maybe another lense.

Comments, advice, etc please.

Thanks!

This is what I shoot with. I've just gotten more "into" photography in the last year or so, and I'm super happy with the results. I can honestly say I'm growing into the camera, and there's lots still that I can learn with it. The price has (sadly) dropped from when I bought mine in 2007(ish), so I think it makes a great starter camera. I won't say I don't lust after other gear, now that I've seen a few higher end models and the features they have. But I'm in no rush to upgrade (not to mention no budget to), as I'm still pleased with what the Canon does for me. I'm also not a pro, just learning and growing on my own. Have a look see at my pics, save a couple taken with a smaller point and shoot, they're all from the XSi.
(fyi, some of the features I lust after include the ability to go to higher ISOs without the noise, full frame sensor, and maybe the ability to shoot short videos)
Hope this helps, or at least doesn't hinder :)

I am also looking into getting the XSi. I see it is being discontinued and am debating getting it before its gone or waiting and getting the T1i. This will be my first DSLR purchase as well. The XSi has good reviews and the T1i has features I probably won't use (movie mode). Ok, I think I just talked myself into the XSi.... suggestions appreciated!
