Sigma 30mm 1.4 vs. Canon 24mm 2.8

I've got 50mm 1.8 prime and I love it.

I like operating the manual zoom but sometimes I do feel rather boxed in, especially when I want lots of detail outside or am shooting in small rooms indoors. I also shoot in low light often e.g. indoors and at night outdoors, that explains why I want an aperture of at least 2.8.

Therefore I'm looking at these two lenses. My question is, what is your experience with them and have I missed some other lenses which might also be good for me? These two are both similar prices and around the money I'm looking to spend.

I'm shooting a Canon Rebel T2i/550d so I've got a 1.6x crop sensor to contend with.

Thanks a lot for the help!

Are you sure you don't mean the Canon 28mm 1.8? That's the closest Canon lens compared to the Sigma 30 in terms of both focal length and aperture. The 24mm 2.8 is a tad wider, but not as fast, and doesn't have USM, and costs nearly as much as the 28.

I have the Canon 28mm f/1.8 and the same camera as you and I have to say, it's my go-to lens for sure. It's fantastic for low light indoor shots. In fact, if you look through my project, probably 90% of my shots are taken with that lens.

I picked up mine used for $350 shipped.

Also, there is a good detailed review comparing the two lenses: http://www.focalplane.net/canon28sigma30/

Yeah that's the one I meant..

Thanks it seems like I'll definitely go for one of them and that there isn't a lot between them.

Thanks for the pointers.

There is also a 20mm fixed lens, canon lens, in the $ 500 range...

I have the 35mm fixed that goes down to f/2 and I like it a lot. Not as wide, but nice :)
