Idea - thoughts?

I've seen a few 365's where they have a constant them. Like the Danbo's, Greg the duck, ect. I've wondered about starting one with M.O. It's a little roboto figurine on my desk from the Wall-E movies. Thoughts?

I did a pic of him yesterday out of nothing else interesting to take a picture of, and it ended up being fun. hehe

Lots of people doing this kind of thing. Check out this guy @neeonline who's doing a theme with two Star Wars figures. Excellent!

@lolanae I love this little robot very much! I believe you'll be able to make a great series with M.O. Get your inspiration in everything you see around! In some time you'll notice that it will start living his own unique fun life. You can also imagine that M.O. is you and tell the story about your daily life but with M.O. as the main character! You can also check my mr.Leo series as well ;)

I see nothing wrong with using your little guy in all of your pictures. I think you will need to get creative and that is a good thing about doing this type of project. It would be fun as long as you don't want to do other kinds of shots. So, for me I would just call it a series and incorporate it into what I already do because I like having options and don't want to force myself into one theme. That's just me though.

Why not start another album for it?

Yes, start a separate album for it, that should be fun!

Go for it!

that would be a good idea. I would start another album as well. :)

Id personally love to have a theme but I can't think of what.

At a friends wedding years ago we found a rubber ducky at the reception hall(weird I know) and we took a bunch of photos of the rubber ducky at different spots around hall and building, even with the bride and groom of a different wedding that was going on and to this day its still there favorites pictures from the day.

As someone with first hand experience I would say.. DO IT!! But start a new album for it. I get very fed up when I get a good shot that I really want to use.. but it doesn't have Greg in it! It's annoying not to be able to share "real" photography with everyone on here, as well as Greg and his adventures. (at least until I become an ace member.. on my to do list :P )

When I started I wrote a list of things I could get Greg doing.. after a few days I realised that most of those things would be rubbish photos, and things I thought were boring would actually be the best shots. It's great fun though :)

@andrew_pavlik - My theme for the entire year is a rubber duck!! I don't recommend it though, he is so slippery and round it is a hard job making him stay put for long enough to get a photo :( I would suggest a teddy bear because they are adorable and you can move their arms and legs and have them holding things etc :)

Thanks for all the replies! I might not do M.O. cause while he is cute, he is not very posable. hehe.

@katiegc24 - I love Greg's adventures! He has been one of the things inspiring this idea.

@lolanae - Greg is incredibly flattered!! Thank you very much :)

If you want a challenge then use M.O.. if not then maybe pick something else.. like I suggested to Mr Pavlik, a teddybear might be easier. Greg is simply a nightmare to photograph. I have a huge list of rants about how annoying he is.. I do think you should pick the subject of your theme very carefully!!!

Rants about Greg: (a.k.a. things to consider when you are picking your theme.. depending on how much of a challenge you are looking for!)

- he is seethrough. Not entirely, but translucent enough that it is virtually impossible to have him in silhouette: light just shines though him and he glows.

- those white hearts. They seem to be permanently overexposed.. or if they are ok then the rest of the photo is underexposed.

- he is round. There is literally no way to wedge him in any tight spots or small corners.. he doesn't stay still on things very well and he rolls around.

- he has no arms or legs. I am constantly coming up with ideas.. and then realising that they involve him holding things or moving things.. doesn't work.

- he has this stupid grin on his face. Fine for when I want him to pose in a silly photo, but anything vaguely serious and I have to photograph his back.

- he is red. It clashes with a lot of things, often doesn't show up where you want it to.. or is too bright, or even sometimes too dark!

- he is a duck. Nobody sells clothes for ducks! If I had picked a doll or something I could get some awesome little tshirts or hats or whatever, but ducks? Nope.

- he is really small. To get him large enough to see he has to be almost directly in front of the camera, which means I have to get the right angle between him (about 5 cm away) and whatever he is doing/looking at (anything from a couple of metres to several miles or more) requiring some awesome DOF and some very clever (HA!) positioning.. and I always need to find something to sit him on that is in line with the other subject. And that almost never happens.

So *that* is why Greg is so incredibly un-photogenic.. and why I am saying you should think carefully about what you pick! I really hope I haven't put you off.. it is so much fun!!!!!

@katiegc24

hehe You haven't. It's good points to think about. I think M.O. will stay my filler piece for my main project. I think of a "greg-like" project, I'll do some investigating on something that is open to more options. If that makes sense?

I know one major flaw in M.O. = he can't stand up without his base. LOL

@lolanae - Good plan. Maybe do a feature on him once a month? or once a week? or something like that :) definitely investigate lots before deciding, although perhaps better advice would be just to go for it and hope you picked something good!! I enjoy the challenge of photographing Greg.. although I do sometimes get annoyed with his shape and his white overexposed hearts and his idiotic smile. Not only do I get weird looks for getting out a rubber duck in public and taking photographs.. I get them for shouting at said duck as well. I genuinely have shouted at him in the middle of a public place before! Oops :/

Not necessarily a flaw.. depends on how big the base is! :P
