Hey,

I just stumbled across this lens, and for the price im very tempted to get it, but wondering if anyone has it and what their thoughts are on it? Is it worth it?

Cheers

Hi Emma, I have been using a Sigma 28-300 mm since August 2010. I replaced the two lens that came with my Canon EOS 1000D. The only thing I really miss is the Image stabilizer that Canon lens had. I don't miss changing lens for different shots. I'm not technically inclined so can't help much more than this.

@cmt2812 I have the same lens and I love it! not too sure about the 70-300 though because the price tag for the one I have was pretty low as it was and gives a better range ? :)

Hi
If you after a lens that is versatile then this would be a good all rounder. If its the macro function your after then you maybe better looking at a fixed focal length lens http://www.sigma-imaging-uk.com/lenses/macro/macro.htm as this lens only does 1:2 rather than 1:1 of a true macro lens.

I have one but it's not fully compatible with my camera. I think it's an older model than what I should have went for, guessing anyway. I bought it on ebay which was compatible with canon cameras but didn't check models, silly me. Anway, since it was second hand I'm not complaining as the price I paid for it was well worth it. The AF doesn't wok but I wasn't bothered about that at the time I bought it. Now I am though and wish it did work, oh well. Also with mine the f numbers need to stay at their widest therwise it just won't work, I think that's where the compatabilty comes in to it. Apart from that I think it's a great lens. I've taken numerous images which I'veposted on here with it. I have found though that images come out a little light and hazy at 300mm but a touch of editing brings the colours etc back in to play.

I would definitely buy another one if I had the money, just need to make sure it's fully compatible with the camera

@mrangryuk Thanks! Will look into a fixed focal length!
