When i look at the people i follow they all seem to be progressing and developing a style of photo that they are good at. I have taken loads of photos but i don't think i have yet found my niche so to speak. I don't think i'm brilliant at photography but i have definately had fun learning and trying stuff out! In fact i have never attempted as much since i saw such creative ideas here.
Just keep at it and your style will develop! The more you try, the more you learn about what you like and dislike. I've always struggled with portraits and *know* I dislike them :P while macro photography intimidated me at first and now I LOVE it!
Don't worry too much about defining what it is you do and just... do!
I *think* I'm starting to get my style now and to be honest it sort of found me rather than I had an epiphany one day. Look back at your Jan pics and compare them to the last week or so. I bet they are improved on, I know I was pleased with my progress when I had a look back at my album the other day.
I completely understand. I've been feeling the same way. We have some fantastic photographers on here and most often I can see their photos and know who took it without looking at their name. And then there's mine. A hodge-podge of trial and error. But I"m learning and I think, eventually, I'll find out who I am as a photographer. Right now I just think of myself as a (photography) student who has not yet declared a major. :)
I really don't think I have a style...and I'm not sure if I want one yet. I'd like to try a bunch of different things. What I can't seem to do...yet...is find ideas for those so I can expand. Maybe I'm good at something besides nature...not sure yet. I need ideas for that though and I am not there yet. :) You don't need a style yet...keep trying different things ... and it'll find you :)
I'm defiantly a student. Just getting through winter is hard enough and recovering from my knee injury has been another obstacle hand in there like everyone says it will come, I'm still finding myself too.
@clarissajohal I agree with this. I never really picked up on a style that my photos have, but other's have mentioned things. Then it's like "Okay, I do see that. neat!" hehe
Sorry i have been wrapping my daughters birthday presents ready for the morning :-) Thankyou everyone I am sure it will come with time -patience has never been my strong point lol.
I have kind of discovered my style over the last year. I can't tell you how, it just started to show up in my editing and followed into my pictures. I am sure that it will change as I learn more and get better with photoshop. :) Just keep plugging away and it will come to you. :)
i too struggle with finding my style...while i like taking abstract/interesting things, i lean towards my kids( i love black and white with color select and vintage-feel pics) but i know that the best way to develope your niche is to keep at it...it will come!
Chuck Close the painter said photography is the easiest medium to learn, but the hardest medium in which to create a personal style. Try lots of things, find what you love in photography, and do it for a lifeteime. Your style will come in the search.
That is what I am hoping for anyhow.
yes, on the process of it, you'll see what enjoys you the most.... i love portraits, that's how i started, so pretty much, some other photos on my 365 suck like flowers or landscapes... wahahhahahha
piece of advice...
you can relate photography style, to what kind of music you wanna listen... i love listeniing to gotan project, enya, buddha bar, indie musicians, so pretty much not the mainstream pop culture... so i guess i love drama... and i somehow deliver that drama on the portraits i do... it's a matter of finding yourself... =)
