Old School photographers, please read!

I need to go back in time and recreate, digitally, stereo glass slides. It's a 1950's thing.

I have my Father's Wedding "album" that consists entirely of Stereo Glass slides. He never had a photo album. I want to change that.

The question: Any recommendations on who, how, these can be restored?

The color is still very good. There are some fungus specs here and there on some. The nice part is, each slide has two slightly different pics for the 3D creation, so if one is real bad, revert to the other.

I am also hoping that whomever has to disassemble the Mounting slides can also put everything back.

Suggestions? Direction? Any assistance would be gratefully appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I would love to look at those in that viewer so much.
Amazing you still have them, good luck on transferring
them to print, hope you post the results.

i never knew such a thing existed. i've been scanning all my color positives... is that what these are but in glass? if an internet search doesn't bring up any info i'd try a museum that has a large holding in photography. wonder if you could scan them with a flat bed scanner that has settings for color positives? or perhaps they are similiar to negatives as the flatbed would work then too. if the two images depend on each other you could scan both and then merge into a print. wishing you the best!!!

I would start of by finding a very reasonable curator/director
They would have the access and the proper information in regards to your question. I know mine did. Perhaps you can convince them to do a exhibit. they love these sorts of projects.

oooo since they are stereo, you have the opportunity to do 3d. With the film prints, enlargements are a snap, and you don't lose clarity (no pixelation) Find a local photoshop and take them to him. Doing the whole album will be pricey, so maybe just take the greatest moments. I hope you do 3d!!

I have a slide projector and all the slides of my parents wedding and there after and I love it!

This stereo glass slide thing you have is pretty neat-o! I hope you can find out how to get it done. I am sure it's possible.

easiest thing might be to just scan the slides into photoshop. I'm not sure how you could recreate the stereo image, as I've never tried it. However, once its scanned you could then print them as individual images and put together a photo album. You probably wouldn't need to dismantle the slides either.

Do you have a scanner? You could pick up a fairly good one for cheap. Everyone has their preferences, but I have used Epson scanners for quite some time. They aren't difficult to use, but there is a bit of a learning curve to scanning negatives/slides. You could always ask here. It would be really time consuming, but I imagine much cheaper than finding someone to do it.

Does that help at all? Sorry.

And for the record, I just got a stereo-scopic camera with no way to print the images. ;-P

Are there any photography studios nearby? I had a very old slide I wanted printed and restored - they were able to help me no problem cause they had the special equipment for reproducing negatives/slides. I'd try calling around to those first to see what they have to say about possibly converting them.

@Sheral That's a good idea! I know one we had some portraits done at. he is very good, and still old school.
