What do you do to keep yourself motivated?

March 16th, 2011
I just hit day 50 of my 365 project! It seemed like a major milestone until I thought there is 315 days left to complete.

How do you guys stay motivated to continue the daily grind?

It's not a chore - personally, it became more interesting as time passed and the quality improved BIG TIME. But some days it is a mission... and on those days, I just aim my camera at something, take a photo or five, go to bed and worry about it the next day. And now I have under two months left of my first!

It's intimidating in the beginning, but it should become habit (if it hasn't already) and something you enjoy/look forward to.

Either way, good luck with your project :) I'm sure you'll be fine!

@indiannie_jones @gacarver
I have to agree with Annie, it will become a habit, an addiction... and I wouldn't have it any other way.
I was excited about 50, I have just hit 75 and am looking forward to 100.... when I hit those milestones I am excited by them and don't think about what is yet to come but celebrate how far I have come

Read all the fantastic comments and look at the inspiring pictures of other 365ers.

Good luck.

I am doing my project in honor of one of my really good friends who passed away from cystic fibrosis, so that definitely keeps my motivation up. So not only am I doing it for myself, I am doing it for him as well. :) I've sold a few prints so far, and any prints that I sell I am sending 50% of the profit to the cystic fibrosis foundation

Try thinking of something thats exotic but normal to you. There will be a lot of people looking at your project so think about what makes your area unique to a complete foreigner.

what inspires me is other 365 members and what ideas they come up with, and try to get that same effect!!!!! doesnt always works but i keep at it!!!!
its one of my new years resolutions to keep taking photos and posting them!!!!! there is inspiration whereever you look, however small or big!!! just photograph it and if you like it keep it if not delete!!!! im hoping to get photoshop soon
i get great comments from my friends too which keeps me going too

@indiannie_jones I love the project and 95% of it is positive and from now I'll look at my bad days, when I can't even pick up my camera until after nightfall, as mission days and not a burden. Thanks

@flamez "i just wander round the house and something presents itself" I think you have touched on one of my problems I'm focused too big and need to find the beauty in the small everyday objects around the house when I can't venture out.
Thanks

Take a step back, take a deep breath, upload a few mediocre photos and just let your mojo find it's way back.

That's what I did along with some fantastic support from the 365 Community.

@vaderkip I think you just nailed it! Sometimes I feel the pressure to attempt something great everyday – impossible. I've got to get comfortable with mediocre or even bad occasionally. Thanks

Everyone and everything is a potential pic to me - no matter how small and how trivial - it's the way you shoot it, in what light, the angle, the composition, the texture, the pattern etc ... Flamez is so right - so if it's a box of matches, spectacles, a bowl, a big toe, a leaf, the corner of the ceiling, a chair leg, a shadow on a wall etc - just look at it in a creative way and wah-lah! you have it. It's the eyes-wide-open syndrome ... it becomes an obsession for you to see your day and everything in it ... in detail. Happy snapping!!! :)

My Brother in law and I have weekly competitions.

This week it was a door with Character. We then start a thread in the themes and competitions section and let people decide which photo is best.

This is the link to this weeks comp!

We have had a bird off and a bridge off as well. It gives us some focus to shoot something as we are both quite competitive.

The passion is still there but work is getting in the way at the moment. I am entering a period where I spend long hours at the office. By the time I get to go home I only have a chance to take night shots. Sometimes I just use some iphone pics taken that day (usually backup). My friend who I followed to the 365project @edvardt is a pro. He simply post what he feels like.....

Photography has now become a habit. One of the first things I do in the morning is to start taking pictures. I take a theme shot sometimes for motivation. Mostly, I look for something just a bit different and unusual, even in the ordinary. This seems to spark the motivation and the creativity in me. Other 365ers really inspire me. There are some really great photographers in this project!

"Sometimes I feel the pressure to attempt something great everyday – impossible. I've got to get comfortable with mediocre or even bad occasionally. "

Be careful with this type of attitude because you will find more of your pictures will fall into this catagory than into the extraordinary catagory and that probably will not be true at all. It's all relative and we all see things differently. You may think they are subpar but your talent, even at subpar, will shine through. That should be your focus, to make the best of whatever presents itself each day. Then you will stay motivated and satisfied with your project. Keep it personal to you.

@viranod - " @edvardt is a pro. He simply post what he feels like..... "

Let us all aspire to this!

i have a few friends doing the project as well, we have been taking turns to give ourselves daily themes (with Sunday 'theme-free'), it is interesting & challenging, it's amazing how much is around you that you don't really notice until all of a sudden you have to take a photo of things like shadows, patterns, lines, spots... has us all motivated... not that we really need it, as said above, i've also found it very addicting =D good luck & enjoy!

Take your camera every place you go. Church, the grocery store, work. You never know when a photo opportunity will present itself! :)

@ Viranod @dmortega I am not a pro, as Dorrenga I simply post what I feel like...
