well , i am in a school band , and in 25 days ( yes i am counting down :P ) the bands are going to New Orleans for a music competition . i am very eager to go. even more exited because i am bringing my camera ( a canon XS rebel ) i was just wondering if anyone had any tips for shooting down there. street pictures, buildings, indoor museums,on the buss on a boat, anything you think would help me out to get some good shots down there would be much appreciated . thanks :)
Be careful that nobody spills hurricanes on your camera in the French Quarter. And make time to photograph beignets at Cafe du Monde. It's a great photo locale and the beignets are to die for.
@webfoot oo nightshots down ther would be wonderfull!
thanks guys :D
@smithss_27106 might i ask what a hurricane is :P ok french Quarter i think our hotel is somewere around there, im looking forward to eating some baignets as well :P
thanks for the input ! evreyone
Take a tour if you can. I took a tour that went through the different wards French quarter and a cemetery and it was awesome. I got to see the houses brad Pitt in funding, and learned the history of the area, and took tons of pics. Cafe du monde is a must!
I just got back from there in February. I think my photos from 1-28 to 2-4 (in that date range) are from there.
Places to visit for good photo ideas
Royal Street for street scenes of tourists and performance artists.
Cafe Du Monde and the market for simple coffee, sitting at table shots.
Make it to the cemetery (Day light please),
The street cars themselves
Musicians.
Behind the church in Jackson Square at night, the is a statue that is lit up onto the church. Excellent photo op that I passed over and regret.
Things that look great but are hard to get great angles on - Iron Balconies - because you are not getting far enough away from them at a height to get a good angle,
Also with the mentioning of school band I do not want to assume you are over 18, but a hurricane is a rum punch.
Places to eat. Mothers by the Casino is cheap and yummy. Clover Grill Diner is an old fashioned small diner with a great staff and cheap. For nice evening dining Luke by John Besh is excellent and breakfast at the Ruby Slipper is great.
@photostolife Checked out your age and while New Orleans has very leniant drinking laws, you will not be partaking of them. When I was younger I could be 18 to drink alcohol, but had to be 21 to purchase. Also open containers are allowed in the French Quarter so do not let plastic cups bump into you because they have red or purple drinks in them most likely.
I love New Orleans and I hope you love it also. Have fun.
@cathycope ok ill keep my eyes out for that ! brad pit! really !! yes i think we are taking mant tours . one in the graveyard, one in the french quarter and one of the jazz national park !

@photostolife The Cafe Du Monde is on the edge of the French Quarter by the River. It is usually very crowded so aim for a weekday over the weekend to go there. I hope you have a lot of fun.
