Using an SLR lens on a DSLR?

March 20th, 2011
So yesterday by my uncle I was given some awesome camera stuff.
One thing he gave me was a Canon AL-1 with a Canon FD 35-105mm 1:3.5 lens.
He also gave me a Minolta Maxxum 450si with a Tamron AF 28-200mm 1:3.5-5.6 lens.

Is there any way I would be able to use one or both lenses on my Canon Rebel XTi?

If this was about Nikon... most certainly. But Canon up and changed their lens mounts in the late 1980s if I recall correctly. So if that stuff is older than the 80s... probably won't mount. And then if they're only manual lenses... another can of worms.

i have a canon 30d and got an adapter from my camera store that enables me to mount canon fd film lens on my dslr, however, with the fd lens i can only operate the 30d on manual --and have to enter the aperture and shutter speed. i am loving all the excellent fd lens i have aquired and at rock bottom prices.

You'll be able to use an adapter to mount the FD to the Rebel but you won't be able to use the Tamron/Minolta. If you had a Sony DSLR you'd be able to use that Tamron straight up as is on full auto.

I've got a couple of sigma EF lenses, and they work on the DSLR - The only way you'll be able to fin out is to try them.

Look at the back of your Canon lens, and at the back of the the new lenses, and if the little dots and dashes are the same, they should fit.
Don't try to force them if they don't.

You're looking at the gold marking at the top of this picture.
