Photoshop Secrets

Just wondering if yall had some that you'd be willing to share! :)

Usually to get different tones I would:
1. Add a new layer
2. Choose a color (swatch)
3. Hit alt, then backspace
4. Change the blend mode to color, then lower the opacity till I was happy with the tones. Here's an example:

But today I descovered a different method that I'm much happier with:
1.Choose any color in the swatch panel. Then press the 'X' button, and choose a different color.

2. Now just press the gradient map icon, right above the layers panel.
That's it, just lower opacity! Here's an example of that method:

I really hope this makes sense!

I halfway understand what you are saying. When I have more time, I will try to do some of these things and see what happens.

Yeah, I was going to say I'd love before and after pics. Love your examples but there's nothing to compare them too.

Thanks for the replies. Yall bear with me, I'm pretty new here! And I wasn't really trying to do a tutorial, but I'm glad it helped!
ok, I don't have before pics from above, they're on a different computer... But here's an example with today's photo. ((The second method))

This is unedited

This is after I added the Gradient Map (not much difference, it's only at 10% opacity. I hope yall can see the tones)

This is before I lowered the opacity. You can see that I used a orange and pink color.
