Best Buy, Trade or Steal

March 26th, 2011
So every few months I sell all the 'gentle used' lens and such that I aquire on a monthly basis... (300 different lenses for pentax and I have a urge to try them all!)

Sometime you get a sweet trade... I just traded a Russian built 500mm Mirror lens for a Jupiter 9... both M42 mounts... but I cannot wait to use that J9 with it's 16 blades!(or 15 I read different numbers, I will know when it shows up)

Sometimes it is not about the newest and best... but a little classic photography stuff... anyone picked up a sweet Brownie or a Lecia or Ricoh Rangefinder? Post photos if you got them!

I found someone on Ebay selling a bunch of different types of 120 film a month or so ago for $2/roll. Such an awesome deal! Everyone else on Ebay marks up expired/old film stupidly expensive (more than fresh...) so it was nice to be able to pick some up to play around with. Does this count? I don't have much money to play with new gear at the moment... thinking of selling my Banner, however, and picking up a second Holga. Banner is too cheap feeling for me...

@hmgphotos you got that banner cheap too I remember! Yes nothing like cheap film to make your day... $2/roll is a steal...

A second holga makes sense... if the action get fast it takes a while to retape the lightseals before getting the next shot.

@icywarm My current Holga doesn't light leak unless I knock the back off, haha. I'd just rather have two Holgas, which are fairly *tough* in the toy camera world, then a Banner laying around I'll never use because it's a plasticy piece of... crap. I might take some photos of it and throw it on Ebay tonight. It has the original box, manual, etc with it... should be worth something to some hipster or collector somewhere. I only ran one roll of film through it.

10 bucks at an Antique show:

@icywarm @hmgphotos Jordan I also just picked up, in perfect working condition, for $149 last week, the following. (Heidi, this one has an AE viewfinder, and autowinder too, unlike my RB 67! Right up your alley!) It has a 220 back though, not 120. Where can I find 220 film that is not expired? Also, Jordan, do you turn over 645 lenses in the gently used collection? I am looking to add to this one.

@moncooga B&H still sells 220 film. Not sure there is the variety available, though.

@hmgphotos I didn't check there. Awesome. I bought this for the 220 back , not realizing at the time 220 is becoming "rare". I use the RB67 for 120. I'll check B&H. Thanks!!!!!

I love picking up old or weird lenses then selling them after I get bored with them. My favorite was a EL-Nikkor 63mm f/3.5 lens which is an elarger lens. I was able to adapt it to Nikon F mount and I used it for ultraviolet photography. (since most normal lenses block 90%+ of UV light)

I also picked up a Medical-Nikkor 200mm f/5.6 a while back to play around with a 3:1 macro. It ended up not being as sharp as I hoped and it was a pain to use. But fun for a while.

I've owned over 30 different lenses but I have a wish list that's just as long.

I listed my Banner for sale... I'd post the ebay link, but not quite sure that's allowed... Just need the money right now, and I don't see myself using it a lot. I already have the Lubitel sitting around collecting dust...

@hmgphotos I don't actually know the rules on it...I have wondered...

@moncooga I almost went with the 645 system so many times... first time I went with a Ricoh twin lens and the next time I went with a pair of Hasselblad 500c and 500c/m with one back each and a CZ 80 T* 2.8 and CZ 150 f4

There is a Pentax 67 with a 80 and 150 2.8 for sale in my area right now... but if I ever have $10k a 645D is top of my list... or a M9... likely the 645D and then I will have lots of FA 645 glass to try... but since the 645D has come out that glass has really jumped in price...

@sudweeks I have never considered modifying an enlarger lens... I have a spare enlarger with lens that might suffer a fatal fall tomorrow...
