Creating a photo book

March 29th, 2011
I already posted this as today's picture, but I thought there might be general interest. Some on 365 have asked about creating photo books of your 365 year.I had a coupon for Shutterfly to make this book and picked a few samples from each month. The quality of the reproduction was excellent. The only shortcoming was that my photos had to conform to the templates in the book. To see for yourself, use this link:

Oh I love the cover! That's magnificent! Another possible location is blurb.com. You can create your own cover and layout including captions and side bindings for an awesome price. My friend sent us one of our vacation and the completed look was great!

I got a groupon for Photobook (out of Canada) and did one from my vacation in the fall and it turned out lovely. They have an option to have no templates. Now at the end of each week, I take each photo and put it into the book in the making along with the title, number and description and one or two meaningful comments. I am using two facing pages for each week and went with a bigger landscape sized book. So when I finish the first 365 photos I can quickly send the book off to the printer with the coupon. But I decieded that it is a task that must be done weekly to keep in manageable.

@brumbe What a great idea! And you're right, much more manageable. Unfortunately my Groupon had a short time frame so I had to work quickly. Your book will have many more pages than this basic model. If I might ask, what will the cost be?

I love the cover! I've created two books with Shutterfly (one as a gift, one for work) and was very happy with the results. While I wish there was a bit more flexibility/control over the templates, the process couldn't be easier. Very quick printing and shipping as well.

@allie912 My groupon is for $115 (I bought two that expire next Feb and one next July) and I paid $35 for each. I am designing it

For my vacation to Germany I had a debossed cover with a photo insert on the cover and 70 pages in the 11"x11" size. I think it came to less and all I had to pay was my shipping, so it was $50.

For this project I think I am doing Medium Landscape on debossed cover with approximately 70 pages so it may get up to $100. I may increase upward on the paper.

My father said it best with " you went out and took all these great photos for a year and wrote such great titles and told stories, you NEED to put this in a book for yourself".

I am using extra pages to highlight my favorite photos or to explain themes.

That's a fun idea. I love your cover. I photo scrapbook as a hobby and have only done a couple in the digital format- at CVS (Kodak kiosk) in store and with Snapfish on line. With so many photos being posted for 365, I wasn't sure if I'd want to scrapbook an entire album. It certainly would be less time consuming to put the book together on line. It's helpful to see the feedback too.
