Is it okay?

April 4th, 2011
I've been seeing lots of people post things that aren't theirs...and say "I don't own this." yet they say that, to me it's still wrong. SOMETIMES they claim it as theirs or not say anything at all...
Yet not claiming it as yours? Is that right?
I really don't think it's okay...since you know they don't link or give a name. Yet even doing that is wrong...since they had no permission.
I've seen this in drawings, screen caps, photos, etc...

It's childish, egotistic and inconsiderate...In my opinion
And I confronted someone about this and all I got back was "Die in a ditch because everyone is doing it...so we can!"

Is it okay? Your opinion please.
Sorry It's late and my head is not on straight...If you need clarifying...feel free to ask lol
(any yet I'm hesitant to start the topic)

I agree with you, if it is not yours you should not be posting it. The only exception is in the WWYD threads but that is giving you permission to not only post the picture but also edit it to your own view.

@jennifer360 Thanks for your sanity! :) When I told the person to take down everything that wasn't theirs they called me a troll and spammer and blocked me D:

I would still love to see how many agree and disagree though... >_>

Totally I will be staying posted to what is put forth on this discussion. :D

If they have permission, then yea they can post it but they can't claim it as theirs. I don't think, that even with permission, they should post it here. The stuff here should be what you take, ya know?

I think if the person has permission then they should give the photographer credit too.

Can you post an example of what your talking about? I'm just curious.

I don't think that people should be taking photos off the internet and posting them even if they say it isn't theres.... I've posted pictures that a family member has taken like from a vacation or something, but I think that is totally different than taking some random photo from the internet..

@kaylaferguson Well it's not on here however it most likely is on here...we just can't see it...But I have seen photography theft...>_>
I'm always on this site called Deviantart and I've seen probably over 50 art thefts on there...stealing ANYTHING...It's very upsetting to me...especially one who targeted art and photography to people who are barley on...so they couldn't get caught

But yeah it's anywhere and everywhere...
I traced art like 2-3 years ago and got caught...Never stole/traced/manipulated or any of the sort again...now I'm totally AGAINST it!
sorry I hope this clarified what I was trying to say...It's almost 1 here...

i thought the whole point was to post photos that YOU took, not a photo someone else took and posted on the 'net?

@refriedradio I totally agree, and it saddens me to think of the person who has no clue...Because you never know who's going to comment or fave it...and the person who comments or faves usually falls for the trick that it would be theirs...

@candicevb That's right!! D:< And it should stay that way...not only for photography but everything else.

I think it's okay to post something that isn't yours if AND ONLY IF you (1) say it isn't yours and (2) ask the rightful owner for permission to post it.

Otherwise, it's naughty!

@pocketmouse I'm hoping "and" really applies there...because saying it's not yours is still wrong to me!

for anyone that is illegally posting, please let me know and action will be taken. Yes it's wrong, and in most cases, illegal.
