Gardens and gardens but what about Cactus & Succulent Gardens?

April 6th, 2011
Gardens always have been very inspirational to photograph from a macro of the tiniest flower to overall views.
But not many photographers have discovered the (sometimes bizar) beauty of cactus and succulent gardens. Co-incidentally (???) we have a huge collection of these plants, here in South Africa (just google 'soekershof' and/or 'green cathedral of south africa') and be surprised!
Once you get addicted to these sculptural plants you'vew established a never ending love-affair ....
You are Welcome!

A few hundres of our succulent pictures (nice and less nice ones) can be found here http://s219.photobucket.com/albums/cc112/soekershof/?start=all and in the diverse sub albums (links in right collumn). But experiencing the real thing is quite different... All our pics made with a simple Sony Cyber-Shot and without photoshopping....

@soekershof - I would disagree. There have been many photographers who love the sculptural qualities of cacti.

We don't have these in North Carolina, but I enjoyed photographing cacti during a recent trip to Arizona:

Thanks all for these beautiful pictures. @Paul The Ocotillo in our garden flowers yearround. How's that in California?
@Layni Beautiful picture. Unfortunately I can't identify the cactus. do you have shot of flowers or the whole plant? And if yes: possible to add somewhere below? Thanks!
@Space You are lucky with such a nice real natural backyard!!! Did you BTW know that we got visitors in from AZ almost on a weekly base? And that since the VIPS of de DBG in Phoenix found out that our garden is THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AND DIVERSE SUCCULENT GARDEN IN SOUTH AFRICA!!! (We are Proud!!!)
@Jason Indeed many photographers like sculptural plants but proportional these are just a small minority.... especially in areas where cacti and other succulent plants don't occur in nature....

It looks to me to be more of a succulent variety than an actual cactus.

@jjefferies @webfoot - I think it is one of the Aloes. Actually the more I look at it, I would be researching (or googling) aloe.
