How do you get a pic on the popular page

I was wondering how you get a picture you think is cool on the popular page? I dont have a huge following, dont know how to get people to see your work. I'm not pro but sometimes I have some pretty fun pictures. As most of you do. Thanks for any input ahead of time....I have a ton to learn here.
