Downloading from 365 project

April 16th, 2011
There have been discussions about making a book at the end of the project. I have tried Blurb and Snapfish who tell me I can't import from 365 to their sites. Are there any photobook companies who can take the photos, dates and comments directly to make a book? Monica

Now that is weird! There have read many threads about book making on here and from what other people have said, it seems that Blurb and/or Snapfish are the way to go so that's what I was going to do. Nobody has mentioned not being able to download their pics before! I eagerly await the responses you get.

Blurb can't access this site and take the photos straight off of here and import them into a book, which is what I think you're talking about. But you can easily take all your photos (you DO have them saved on your computer, right?), and get the Blurb program, and make your own book. You could copy and paste the comments if you wanted. But I highly doubt there would be any company that will do it just automatically (I honestly wouldn't be surprised if there was legal issues involving that, one company taking stuff off of another site)

Your photos should be all on your computer somewhere, so that's your best bet. Plus you wouldn't want the really small and compressed versions that get displayed here for print. You'd want to submit high-resolution original images if they are going to be printed at anything larger than about a postcard.

So to make a book you're pretty much going to be on your own for organizing all your photos, keeping track of dates, and copy/pasting the descriptions into a publishing format or site.

The photos that are displayed here are really not of any quality for printing...even if the printers could access them. Just download Blurb's free software and have fun with those phots at their original resolution all over again.

plus you will have the page issue... most companies cannot print over 120-150ish odd pages... with 365 days of photos... that makes it at least a 3 part book...

Thank you all for your comments. They make perfect sense. I had visions of signing up to Blurb or someone, giving them my 365 address and saying, 'Please put these photos, dates and comments into a 40 page book." I suppose I should start now moving photos into a photobook before numbers become unmanageable. I appreciate your help.

Don't people keep their photos after uploading them? Wouldn't it just be better to work with the originals on their PC instead of uploading them from this site??

You are right about using the original and I do keep the photo. However, I often take dozens of photos during the day, choose from those and post it to 365 and leave the rest in the file. I am glad I asked this question reasonably early in the year and will make sure I keep separate the ones I have posted to the site. I had just assumed from other discussion threads that I could use just pull everything from 365 into a book at the end. Please excuse my ignorance.

I keep all of my 365 photos in a file in order, but I understand what you mean Ariadne about being able to just make them into a book from this website. Obviously I don’t have my commentary stored there so it would be nice not to have to write all new comments in a book. Plus, I’ve look into making books, and it seems quite a daunting task to deal with 365 pictures! Just transporting them from here with the click of a mouse would be nice!

I have all the photos I've used for 365 in a separate folder. I have dozens and dozens of other shots but I always make sure I put each photo for my 365 project onto my folder on my laptop so I don't get lost :o) xx

There are a bunch of sites out there that will import your blog and make it a book ... once it is all imported you can go through and edit it but the majority of the work is done automatically ... I had assumed I could do the same here ... like Ariadne I have many photos from a day and haven't marked which ones I used because I was assuming I could at least download the original from the site if not import all the originals to a book making site ... and like the blog to book sites I thought it would capture my captions as well ... and I know the books have limits but my ideal design would be 7 photos per 2 page spread to have a photo by week layout ... needing only 104 pages ... hummmmmmm

I would pay good money for a 365 year-end print-to-book option. It sounds like many of you would too. The program would need allow us to upload 300dpi versions along with our 72dpi shots for web. I would like the option that someone suggested of 7 days on one side with the week's favorite on the other. Some of you might want a coffee-table book of all 365 shots. I would also opt to print captions and comments (but this might not work for people who have lots of followers). Which computer genius out wants to develop this for us?
