I know that the Nikon D5100 hasn't officially come out yet, but I've heard that it is replacing the Nikon D5000. Is this true?
Also, if it is, does anyone have any guesses/info as to when the D5000 will be discontinued? I am saving up for it and I would like to know how long I have!
Even after it comes out, you should be able to get your hands on one. Some stores will still have some and places like Amazon and Ebay are always options too.
@andycoleborn - there is a difference. The D5100 is more expensive, new features, more megapixels, etc. I don't think Nikon is selling it yet but it has been announced on their website.
I have been waiting for just the right sale and got my D5000 a couple of weeks ago now. I had done a bunch of shopping around, researched the different models and made up my mind quite a while ago that this was the one I wanted. I have been very happy with it and it fit perfectly into my budget.
D5000 will probably drop in price a little now. It's already come down since I got mine in October, can now get a kit with 2 lenses for what I paid for body and 18-55mm lens.
