Privacy settings?

The question may have been asked before but...

I was just wondering if the 365 site would ever make it so I can make my project photos viewable by "friends only"... to protect privacy.

Just been a bit paranoid lately about how much of my life I share on the internet.

Just wondering... what does everyone else think?

I think it defeats the purpose of this site.
Facebook and flickr ( I think) facilitate what you're looking for.

If you don't want it to ever become public, don't post it on the internet. Even sending something via email does not ensure protection nor does sharing with "your friends".

Seen in the Frequently asked questions:

Currently when you upload a photo it is open to the world, we are considering implementing preferences that could let you "lock down" your photo to only friends or other members. If you feel you would like this feature added, please get in contact with us.

Also think it defeats the purpose of this community . . .

yup I agree it does defeat the object, if you want to share a photo with just a select few people there are many other photo sharing sites that cater for those requirements

I agree with Dorrena, always presume when you post anything on the internet, even facebook that the world can see it.

There is no such thing as protecting your privacy on the internet. It doesn't matter how safe, secure and protected you may think your stuff is - the (sad) truth is nothing is safe. When you post something, always post like the whole world is watching. If you don't want people to know something about you, don't post it. If you are that afraid of someone stealing your photos, don't post them. Same thing goes for emails, etc. If someone is that desperate, they will find a way past a few security settings and passwords. And it would defeat the whole purpose of the site if you made so only a selected few could enjoy your photos.

But to answer your question (like everyone else has said), No, currently there is no security/privacy setting. You just have to make a conscience effort when posting that you don't give away more information than you would like everyone to know.

I'm just wondering if you were to limit your photos to just "your friends" on this site, how will other members find your work and be able to enjoy it. Just a thought!!

thanks for sharing all your thoughts, opinions and comments... much appreciated and I do see ALL your points.

I guess it all boils down to why you are doing this particular project using this particular site and what it means to you.

My aim was to document my day to day, capturing moments in my & my family's life rather than perfecting my photographic skills. I have just gotten a bit paranoid I guess about sharing my "life". I suppose I need to re-assess whether this is the right place to do that. I think I will sleep on it! ;)

Thanks again... I do appreciate your feedback... food for thought.
