Which watermark?

I had a complaint from a friend that this watermark was annoying because it was over the main subject. I honestly didn't realize how dark it was until then. Well now I don't know that he realized that it was supposed to be placed so as to deter from cropping & copying. I should have made it lighter originally but I lightened it & moved it at the request of my friend. What do you all think?

Here's the original:

Here it is off to the side & lighter:

The second one is better. Your watermark often overpowers the photo, IMO.

Yeah I agree with the above. The first one draws the attention away from the subject so the second one is better :)

I like the second one much better. I feel that watermarks can be used in a bit of a heavy handed way. While you want to protect your photo, you also do not want your watermark taking away from the actual photo and being a distraction.

I prefer the second as it is less distracting from the photo and also I found the original difficult to read whereas it is clearer where you have it on the second one :D

the placement of the darker one did not really bother me because it was on the bottom of the main image and our eyes are trained to center on a photo and in this day and age of multitasking and multidistractions I think most of us are skilled at handling any deterrent thrown our way. In all actuality I am finding myself getting quite used to photo's being watermarked on the internet as well. I do prefer the lighter version so if you placed the lighter version in the same placement as the first I do not think I would have even noticed it

Jen
second!

I thought the point of a watermark was to say, hey, this is mine, don't take it. I like the lighter version, but honestly, if I wanted to steal this image, it would super easy to take that watermark right out, since it's off to the side. It would take a little longer on top of the image like that. I think keep it at the bottom, but make it lighter like @loztsoul said.

I agree with everyone else when they say second!

I would have liked the first if it was along the top instead of on the subject since it blocks both the subject and the watermark is hard to read. In this photo, yes, the second one.

Second much better I think. You don't want people distracted by the watermark; it should be subtle.

I think it really depends on each individual photo. In this one the little child is obviously the main part of the photo so yes the watermark over him is very distracting. In this case I definitely prefer the second one.

Second one.

Second one too!

Thanks all for you help! Like I said I didn't notice it was that dark until later. I think I am going to start erring on the side of the lighter water marks so as to protect but not take away from the picture.

I like the first one, if it were faded a little more.. But I like the lightness of the second one.
