It's funny because I've only done about 10 in over 900 posts but these three are all very recent. I don't ever really plan to do one but sometimes the situation seems right to include myself in the shot...
for these two (i took them both in the same night), i turned off all my lights in my room except for my lamp and used that for lighting...and just got a little creative with it :) try shining it on the side or something, almost always turns out cool :)
most of mine are done using the self-timer... some using a tripod or whatever else I can stand my camera on. and sometimes I just point the camera towards myself and shoot.
Well here's my most recent, which I'm kind of a fan of. The caption kind of explains it, but I was just shooting intentionally bad selfies and then seeing what I could do with it in editing. Sooo, shot it in B&W, with purple toning, then picniked it with 1960's effect, adjustable threshold, duo-tone, and I think I may have cross-processed?
I started a similar thread when I did the self portrait challenge in May, you could probably find it if you look through the discussions! Here's one of my favorites of mine:
For this one I simply placed a large mirror on the floor, turned on the ceiling fan, and shot with a shutter speed slow enough to slightly blur the fan but fast enough to keep me sharp. I then flipped the image in Photoshop so that it wouldn't look like a reflection:
For this one, I set up a black backdrop, and a single strobe (gridded spot) high camera-right. I put a second camera on a tripod, set the timer, and, well, simple enough:
For this one I used basically the same formula as per the last shot, positioning myself further forward (and facing the camera) so that it would give this low-key, dramatic look:
they involved a chair, sellotape, self timer and a bit of time lol. I didn't have a tripod - that was the chair and the sellotape ...which also meant a fair number of deletes as I tried to get the position right. I varied between shots of me from that day, to shots portraying an emotion I'd felt.
I try and do one a month, here's three. As far as how--I take a photo (arm's length because I'm too lazy or busy to find my tripod) and start playing around in Picnik.
This one was 1) photo, 2) boost the eye colour 50%, 3) cinemascope framing.
This one was 1) photo, 2) 50% infrared, 3) add a texture I found in Halloween textures
and this one was 1) photo, 2) dramatic sepia twice (except for the eyes) 3) texture
That's basically it except for some contrasts and small tweaks, as far as I remember. Have fun taking yours!!
My fiancee actually took the shot, buti setup the camera for her n stuff.
I did editing, shes still not quite used to PS yet lol, its a little overwhelming at first
Remote shutter. Didnt get the focus how i wanted it but oh well.. I still like the idea xD
My fiancee took the shot, i set it up. Fun times ;D
I had more than I thought, looking back through my album...Here are a few:
This was half of my idea, put the camera on a pillow to get the angle right, layed on the floor and set the timer for each shot. I played with the aperture till I got the lighting right, shot in monochrome but that could be taken care of post processing also.
Here is the other half of the idea
I spun around in a revolving chair and played with the shutter speed to get the background to blur, used autofocus but had to play with the zoom level to get it just right also.
This one I set up my camera on a tripod and took some test shots for exposure, aperture, lighting, etc. I guessed at the shutter speed and obviously was a little off. It wasn't as crisp as I wanted it to be. It was hard to see that on the little display though, so I didn't really see it until I uploaded it to the computer. I did the selective coloring the hard way and I can't remember how I made it work now. I just know it took a lot longer than it should have.
I set up an old projector screen for the background, and a light off to the side for the shadow effect. I had the ISO up to 3200 because of the low light and that I wanted a grittier feeling to it. I set the camera on a tripod and used the timer function. I set the focus on manual, focused on my hand and then was about an arms lenght from the camera. I played around with my expressions until I was happy/exhausted from squatting down. (I wasn't able to get the light up very high and still keep the clean background)
ANNNNNDDDDD...that's plenty.
tripod
tripod and timer
wow i didnt realize i had so many!

ok I can go on forever.. seems that I have a LOT of selfies.. lmao!! Im very modest..
(Colour selection trough selection tool in Photoshop, then turned the picture sideways)
(the original can be seen on a link under the picture, then I just cut myself out and pasted the selection on a picture of waves)
(also colour selection here and two pictures merged into one with copy and paste. I've heard this is easier in Gimp though)

^^ that one's my favourite.

Tripod, timer, pinhole.
Tripod, timer, pinhole, lack of sleep.
My ultimate guilty pleasure....a photobooth.
Never realized it but in most of my selfies I tend o make myself creepy! LOL!

Mine is a 365 of self-portraits containing dreams, nightmares, inspirations, fantasies and the likes.
I don't have many..Not comfortable in front of my camera ; )
Does this one count!?
Had more than I thought! LOL!
