Is there such a thing as a lens filter flipper?

Has anyone ever seen a lens attachment that would screw onto the filter threads that has a hinge or slider or similar mechanism that I can attach my IR72 filter to that would allow me to flip or rotate the filter out of the way for focusing and setting up a shot then flip it back down into place for taking the shot? I am really interested in trying out IR but screwing and unscrewing the filter for every shot is just an accident waiting to happen =/

I use Cokin square filters for that very reason. There is no adaptor AFAIK, but you could consider switching to the Cokin system.

@phryne Haha, funny you mentioned accidents. I dropped an IR filter on rocks one time when I was screwing/unscrewing it. Luckily nothing happened to it. It is indeed a pain in the butt, that's why I highly suggest a converted DSLR for IR photography. Just simplifies everything so much! I can't wait until I can afford one...

or slide on adapters... I use a hack that lets me slide my filters onto the front of the lens after I sent exposure... need doing some long exposure stuff and great to set-up the shot than add the filter later....

You could possibly adapt a lens cap to become as quick pop off adapter, though it might be useless on really wide angle lenses...

I just came back to this with a thought, if you have a dead filter or grab a really cheap one the same size you could put together a flip up on by soldering on a small hinge to the outer of the rings so you screw on the back one and the front one is able to flip up.

A cigar box hinge would probably work pretty well.
