My family are visited Anaheim, LA in August and would love to know if there is a beach not too far from there that anyone could recommend for some serious fun?
I know there are loads of 365ers who live in the LA area, like @robinwarner and @alecio
We are going to be there in mid August when it should be nice and warm. My boys would love to try a Californian beach with waves and possible surfing (like the ones back home in Oz).
I don't know a whole lot about Newport Beach as far as waves and things but Huntington Beach has lots of surfers (I think short boards) and I like taking pictures there.

My brother isn't up or I'd ask him which beach he'd recommend since he is a surfer. I did a quick search on Newport though and there is a surf report for that beach so that'd probably be a good choice too.
My fiance used to live in Huntington Beach, it is very nice. If you are interested in tide pools, I would suggest going to Crystal Cove, its in Newport and it's awesome!
surf city! huntington beach is where you want to go!:)))) and i agree, the tidepools in dana point or newport beach are great:) since all those beaches are in a line, it would be easy to do:)HTH
Oh yea, one more thing, stay in the beaches that are in Orange County, the beaches in LA county are pretty nasty. Orange County starts south of Long Beach.
@kezzam - if you want an adventure Bolsa chica state beach takes rv's for overnight stays...they have fire pits and it is very close to the main pier...lots of action for surfing this time of year....i used to live walking distance to there and it is a good scene all around:)
If you want a nice beach the whole family - nicer water. Check out Dana Point but further down is San Onofre which is good for surfers and camping. Both just south of Irvine.
