Could someone either volunteer to take a hand out of a background or point me toward a tutorial for LR3 or PSE9 that will show me how to do that? It's a good pic and I want to use it for thank you cards but my husbands hand off to one side is driving me crazy. It is so blooming distracting. I'd be fine with just making the entire background black even, but I just need to get rid of that hand!!!
The easiest way would be to use the clone tool in Photoshop (it looks like a seal and can be found on the left hand menu), press Alt and select an area slightly above the hand and clone that area downwards. Another, slightly more difficult option is selecting (via the magnetic lasso) the foreground plus candles and darkening everything else. Hope that helps :).
@tolpol ok you might be able to answer my question. I just upgraded picnik. I try using the clone feature. I pick the spot I want to clone, I want to get rid of a line
using a solid color. As I move the circle on what I am covering, the other circle that is picking up the solid color moves as well, which in turn transfers whatever it touches to what I want covered with just the solid color. what am I doing wrong.
Thanks in advance for your help
@tolpol I am also very interested in @rrt's question and would like to have an answer about the clone in Picnik. I, too, have the upgraded Picnik In advance, thanks for helping us out. (:
I have the same problem, so I choose a small brush, zoom in and then move cloning tool in small straight lines (up and down or left and right). So if you pick a point just above where you want to clone , the set point will move down through the new cloned part picking up the same colour, same for left and right.
Hope that helps, not sure it even makes sense!?
Could I send one of you the actual full res jpeg to work with? For some reason when I upload pics on 365 it changes the color considerably, that's why it shows him as a little yellow green but the original is a healthy skin tone!!! Ha! @asrai@tolpol
About using the cloning tool on picnick yo guys can try moving the selection circle. That's what I do. I takes some practice, but once you get the hang of cloning it can really make a world of difference in your photos. I use it to remove weird shadows when I don't have control over the lighting.
@rrt thats normal. It moves around for me too. You aren't doing anything wrong. Its annoying cause i would like it to stay where i clicked but it doesnt and as it moves further and further away you just have to keep selecting that spot. Or for me i choose an area closer to the object i am cloning away. just keep hitting the spot selection button and choosing it over and over again. Hope this helps.

Both of those look GREAT! That's exactly what I was looking for and for me makes it so much better!!!
I'm working with your instructions now, I've never cloned so this is new territory for me!
Thank you, Sir!!!
@tolpol Thanks for posting an answer. I am going "to play with it" and see if I can get it right. ;~)
A few minutes later: Well, "shut the front door." I did it! I did it!
Yeah, I can't figure out why uploading on 365 is affecting the color on my pics but it is. It's been doing it for a few months now.
