Boston Suggestions?

July 6th, 2011
We've decided to spend a few days in Boston while on a trip to Loudon NH in September. Our hotel is in Woburn MA, and we'll be there for the better part of 4 days with nothing really planned as of yet. Any photo suggestions? Places, best times, don't miss, etc.

I've never been to Boston, and really don't know much more than Harvard, Tea, Cheers and, oh yes, Bruins. :-)

TIA

The Freedom Trail! It's wicked awesome! It'll take you by so many neat Revolutionary sites, like the Old North Church, Paul Revere's home. There's many neat shops there with PLENTY of photo opportunities. Have fun! We LOVE Boston.

Take a tour of Fenway Park http://mlb.mlb.com/bos/ballpark/tour.jsp
Prudential Building http://www.topofthehub.net/skywalk_home.html
MIT Museum is fabulous and underrated http://web.mit.edu/museum/
The Boston Public Library in Copley Square is great for photos
Boston Harbor Islands National Park - went for a presentation http://www.nps.gov/boha/index.htm
Harpoon Brewery http://www.harpoonbrewery.com/
Freedom Trail (you can walk it and NOT pay for a tour)
Blue Ginger - Ming Tsai's restaurant in Wellselley (I could not get out there when I was there.
Check out my photos from April 9th and 10th.
Also I enjoyed eating at Cafeteria, where the food was quite good for a urban price but still reasonable (I had one dish and sampled another one when I commented on how great the dish looked as it was being served to the man sitting next to me. He got an extra plate and shared some of his chicken and vegetables.) http://www.cafeteriaboston.com/

The Freedom Trail. Start at USS Constitution. Take the Constitution Tour first. Boston Public Library ( http://365project.org/dune1953/365/2011-04-16). MIT Museum. Cognitive and Brain Sciences buildings at MIT ( http://365project.org/dune1953/365/2011-04-13) Dinner at Union Oyster House ( http://www.unionoysterhouse.com/). Take a whale watching boat ride. Go to top of Prudential building. We visited Boston for a friends wedding two years ago. Boston is a "walking town".

The Holocaust Memorial is also really cool, I don't know exactly where it is but it's not terribly far from Old North Church.
There's an indoor bazaar/market in Faneuil Hall
Also lots of old cemeteries with ancient headstones...I think the one we wandered around in was called Cope's Hill

If you are looking for a photo opportunity check out Photo Walks. (I am doing one this weekend.) http://www.photowalks.com/

The North End (Italian section of town) is always a good take. Pizzeria Regina and Mike's or Modern Pastry. Lots of good food and good photo opportunities.

Sports fan must stop to pay their respects at Fenway Park. The tour is well worth it but great photos outside as well.

I agree with the Freedom Trail recommendations. Paul Revere's house (North End) is interesting.

If you have children with you, the Make Way for Ducklings statues in the Public Garden are always a hit. Not sure if the Swan Boats will still be running but they are Boston tradition. (Also in Public Garden)

Sam Adams Brewery tour is a good take. It is a bit out of the way but in Jamica Plain but worth it for the free beer.

Boston is a great town. Enjoy it! "Love that dirty water... Boston you're my home."

If you go to the USS Constituyion, take the water taxi back. For just a few bucks, you get a fabulous boat ride in Boston Harbor!

All these suggestions are good. Boston is a very historic town and once you go down town. Take the green line on the take the T and go to North Station and go to the Garden to see the home of the Stanley Cup Champs.

def fenway park. also... I suggest either the DUCK tours or a Boston Trolley tour. both will take you all around boston, and gives a ton of info. I have lived in New England my whole life, and everytime I take a tour, I learn a little tidbit that I didn't know before.
have a great time!!!!!!

The Freedom trail is great - just follow the red line on the sidewalk to many historic sites. One of my very favorite places in Boston is the Public Library at Copley Square. There are 2 buildings together - a newer one with all the books and the "Palace for the people" which used to hold the books. You can wander around and admire the murals and the marble floors and walls. The 2nd floor has a large reading room. There are also gorgeous rooms where in the past, patrons would wait for their book to be retrieved. Only librarians were allowed in the stacks (shelves where the books are stored). The 3rd floor has an art gallery and more gorgeous murals. Outside the library is the finish line for the Boston Marathon, there are some neat carvings in the sidewalks. You can also get some great photos of buildings and people reflected in the glass John Hancock Tower. (I used to work in that building - on the upper floors you can hear it creak as it sways in the wind.) Have a great trip!

is an amazing outdoor sculpture museum. They are located in Lincoln which is about a 20 minute drive from Woburn. deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum

The Mapparium (part of the Mary Baker Eddy Library ) I believe it's close to the Copley Station of the T. It's a 3 story painted glass globe. I haven't visited in years so I don't know if you can take pictures. It's an amazing thing to see.

Have a wonderful time. So much to see so little time, you'll just need to start planning another trip!
