Canon PowerShot A540

Hi, This question is to anyone who knows a lot about this camera or just cameras in general. My camera is broken [the lense doesn't open at all] so now I have to use my mom's camera and I have no idea how to and we lost the manual. Anyway its a Canon PowerShot A540 [digital] and I would like to know how to turn the flash off? And if nobody knows how to do that, do you know of any good camera that don't cost a lot of money? Please let me know! I have to get back on track with my project!

Emily, I bought my Canon IXUS 105 for less than Euro 100,- I Take it with me everywhere I go. (At least if my EOS is to big) Check my project, I make most of my pictures with it, and it's so small and easy to take with you!

@emilymarieley Hi Emily- sorry to hear about your camera! I use a Canon Power Shot A560 for my 365 Project and I'm assuming they are very similar. My flash is operated by a button on the back. It puts itself on automatically whenever I turn the camera on, but I can overrided that using the function/set button on the back of the camera. The button has an outer ring which is divided into 4 sections. One is for the ISO; one is for macro; one is for the timer or rapid frame shooting; and the last is the flash. When you press it once, it maintains the automatic mode; when you press it a second time it puts the flash on permanently and pressing it a third time turns the flash off. You might be able to get another manual for your specific model by contacting Canon.

I had a Canon A520 (an older version of the same model) and after a bit, the lens cover shutter would not open all the way when turned on, and I would use my thumbnail to flick it the rest of the way open. It still works fine today, other than this inconvenience. The flash automatically turns on, and to turn it off, press the flash button ( top of the function setting/ the zigzag arrow) once(?) until it has the x'ed out arrow on the screen, right corner(?)
