I have this lens. After about 7 months, my Nikon motor apparently overpowered the lens and now it vibrates when trying to auto-focus. :( I've read the the Nikon motor is too strong for most Sigma lenses that use A/F. I recently found a used Tamron 70-300 and I love it.
I use a selection of Sigma lenses on my Canons (50D & 400D).
I have the 10-20mm, 17-70mm & 105mm macro lenses & would certainly recommend Sigma as a brand.
I had this model for my old Sony with the macro option, love it, one of my fav lenses planning on purchasing one for my Nikon. I suffered a grinding sound, vibration with the Sony because I was accidentally forcing the scaling ring, Sigma sorted it for free because it was under warranty so I have zero fear in buying another one for my Nikon d7000, I'm sure it will be worth it
Went to the store with my EOS to try both the Tamron and the Sigma lens, liked the Tamron 70-300 best, but ofcourse its up to you! Some of the pictures I took with that lens:
And it has a macro function as well!
@rleonard Hey, yes it still works - it just does this loud vibration noise and shakes if there isn't a good focal point already in the lens to start with, ie. if you don't have it extended the right amount and you start with a blur... I got used to it and still use it sometimes when I grab it by accident. I know it can be fixed, but you have to send it to Sigma and it can take weeks to get it back. I would recommend Sigma for sure, it's a great lens and the glass is bigger than my Tamron of the same magnification....it's just that motor issue....
@sburbidge - thanks for your input! @tonygreen - thank you! good luck with the new lens! @maaikel - i will have to look into tamron lenses, your shots are lovely!
@rleonard This is the one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tamron-AF-70-300mm-F4-5-6-Macro/dp/B000HDZAUA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1314220884&sr=8-2
And in this one I used the macrofunction:
Want to bump this up... anyone notice a problem with the pictures they take using this lens? Particularly something that looks like camera shake or a slight aura around anything that should be a fine line?

Also does hte Sigma have IS?
Am I right in saying that the Sigma lens you mentioned above has a special macro feature that isn't included in the Canon lens I linked to?
