what is this spider

spider265 / 365I saw this critter earlier tonight, took a couple shots, went away, went back later, iit was still where it was so I caught it. Never saw one like it before. anyone know what the heck it is and is it dangerous. I was very careful to not let it on me. By the way the location is by the St Lawrence River, upper N.Y. state

I agree with Jason Daniels and Lee Gordon. Your shot matches perfectly with The Audobon Society's shot in The Field Guide to North American Insects and Spiders which would definitely cover spiders found in your area.
