Paul Strand exhibit

First of all I would like to thank my friends and followers who have patiently waited for me to come back and have commented on every photo I have put up during my dry spell. Things have slowed down here a little bit, but I am still taking care of the grandkids 4 days a week for part of the day. Things with my son have settled down a little bit so I am not so emotionally wrung out, although nothing is settled yet.

While I was in El Paso, Texas back in August, I was excited to see that the art museum had an exhibit called Paul Strand in Mexico. Paul Strand traveled in Mexico in 1932-33 and published a portfolio "Photographs of Mexico" in 1940. He used photogravure, a laborious process of printing from etched metal plates. The portfolio was produced at the suggestion of close friends of Strand's and his own endeavor to offer high quality art to a wider audience. The photographs combine Strand's longstanding concerns with abstraction and form, landscape and architecture, and portraiture with content specific to Mexico.

I credit our group that does the artist challenge regularly on this site for opening my eyes to Paul Strand and helping me to really appreciate the significance of this exhibit.
