I pay a yearly fee. I have quite good cover - $20 million in public liability and about $20000 equipment cover, through Lloyds of London.

@jinximages can I come and hurt myself on you please???

@nikkers I've never been flirted with quite like that before. ;)

@jinximages $20 million?!?! Geez... does your insurance guy send you a turkey each year for Christmas? Is that really the industry standard? wow!

I guess as accountants we do way less damage as we only carry 2 mill...

but onto the OP posts... almost makes no sense to buy insurance shoot to shoot... find a good insurance guy... get covered for the year... ask about things such as 'mysterious happenings' with your equipment... some places will not let you shoot without it... and if you happen to be shooting the local pro football team and you cause the QB to fall off a bench and bust his knee... best cover your arse..

as MOST of the time your home owners insurance does not cover your stuff if they can prove or suspect that you are using it for a 'job', worth looking into...

@ronphotography . I will be the first to admit that I am no help. I am annoying.. and painful, funny, and good looking.. but No help at all....

if anyone wants to work for me they must have $10mill public liability insurance so @jinximages is ok on my books.... however I don't deal with photographers that often so oh well.

My home insurance covers my camera. At home and on my journeys.

@icywarm You do have to ask when it comes to home owners insurance and what is covered. I am only a renter so I have renters insurance but I actually have my equipment covered under "personal article floaters" which is a separate coverage from my renters insurance. I know it varies but I believe the line is drawn on how you can be covered based on how much of your income comes from photography. As soon as you reach 50% you have to get separate coverage.
