Nikkon D5000 - Dark pictures

September 29th, 2011
Hey gang,
Hoping someone can help me. All of my photos come out very dark (even in auto mode) as if there is a tint on the lens. I have to photoshop all of my pictures.

Are there any settings I should try adjusting?
Thanks

Do you have a filter or hood on your lens? Kinda dumb question but you gotta start with the easy stuff. Have you tried using a different ISO or shutter speed? If so do you still get the dark tint? When you say all of your photos, do you mean in a series, like you shot the same subject from the same spot and they all came out dark. Or do you mean every photo you take regardless of the setting? Did this just happen out of the blue or do you remember the point where this started? I'm no expert so if none of this helps, I'm over my head!

+/- EV comes to mind, sounds like it could have gotten bumped somehow

@phoneguy94 Have you posted one with exif info? If so, that might help.

@cchambers
I thought of the exposure bracketing too, but he says its happening in auto mode as well, which wouldn't make sense as its not adjustable in that mode.

Double-check your metering setting -- i accidentally changed mine to center-weighted once and everything was coming out super-dark!

Thanks for your responses. @ukdanae @axel @jessicaelaine @cchambers @shadesofgrey

I have a UV filter on it, but I don't notice a difference when I take it off. I'll check the metering settings and the +/- EV.

My next 2 pictures will be with then without photoshop

@phoneguy94 You may also want to do a reset on your white balance. I had a friend run into this issue with all of the pictures being dark and off-toned. Ends up his kiddo had been playing with his camera and had reset the white balance based on the shade of her palm. Oops.

@autumnseden Oh, good call! My white balance is really yellow-orange and I keep being too lazy to reset it, and just fix it in Photoshop.

Did you fix the problem?

@wormentude I haven't checked my camera settings yet. I need to find my user guide too. ;)
