are we allowed to email private messages to one another on this site? often times i'd like to ask a fellow 365er about their photo, e.g. how they enhanced it and which program they used, as well as questions regarding lenses and lighting.
i feel it too personal to ask questions in a thread regarding their uploaded picture... so, is there an option for us on this site to send private messages when we do have a question we'd like to ask somebody personally?
Another suggestion would be to post a comment on their photo and ask them if they mind contacting you by email. If you like, you can then include your email address, post the comment and then delete the comment. They will receive a notification that you commented with your information but it won't stay on the picture. I have done this a couple of times to exchange contact info with people and keep it private.
Not knowing much about the structure of this system, I would tend to think that the easiest way would be to simply add a "Private" flag to each message record. I'm guessing that the record already has a "to" field in it. So a user checks the private box in the comment section, and only the "to" user can read the message, as it has been marked private.
in all honesty, I'm surprised no one else has mentioned it, but the questions you appear to want to ask, is what this site & it's community are all about... and in my opinion would be wasted being in just a private message rather than in the comments associated with that particular image. Yes you would gain from that information, but there could be many others who come across that info later (if in the comments section) who could also benefit from it. We are here to share and learn from one another.
if someone is very protective about how they did a particular edit etc, then it's down to them if they want to share or not, but I'd say 99% of the people on here are happy to help if you are curious about the technical stuff...
If the questions are more of a personal nature, then just swap email addresses &/or other external contacts and go with it that way...
@grecican@wadey I agree with Wadey....this site is all about sharing and helping each other to become better photographers so I don't see any reason why you would've to asks something like this in a private comment. we can all learn by reading your question and maybe benefit by the answer you receive.
@grecican You'd love it. It's a telephoto that extends from 75mm all the way to 300mm if you twist it the right way. Now it just needs the right aperture. I was thinking something small and tight like ƒ22 would be the perfect fit. That way when I'm playing with my pussy cat I won't accidentally blow out shots if my strobes get too hot.
@rayg86 agreed, man
@thebluegnu thanks for the tip... i'll start looking more diligently! :)
google's version is a lot better, imo... even though i'm barely on that.
Works for me!
