I'm doing some portrait shots for my friend and her husband and baby this weekend
Then November 6th, I'm doing some senior pictures.
I'm scheduling more portraits & senior pictures coming up in the next couple of months.
Should I watermark them?
What should I charge for senior pictures?
I wouldnt watermark anything but the proofs you show the clients. The pictures they end up buying from you dont need to have a watermark since they are paying for them.
I wouldn't watermark them, besides having no real security value you may find that some people dont like watermarked photos and will be reluctant to buy them. By all means if you are putting shots on a website add a watermark but I would say not on the print you are charging for.
Okay so personally, I've been asked to take pics for this or for that and I have done on occasion...BUT I've never charged because I'm not a professional photographer.
I may be able to take a good photo now and again but I'm not in the league of charging for my work!
That's my unprofessional opinion, which is going to make me unpopular, I know.
I don't watermark my stuff, because if someone really wants it they can easily remove a watermark and I know what's mine.
But Stephy I really do wish you luck and success in your endeavour.
Watermarking for a website, for client galleries? Definitely. A watermark is only easy to remove if done poorly, or stuck in a corner where it can be cropped out. If they can screen-capture it and print it, they won't bother to pay you for it. Place it so that it runs over an important element or elements, so it can't be cropped out. Careful cloning can (sometimes) remove a watermark placed as such, but it takes a lot of work, and most people won't bother. Just be aware that some people will print it with the watermark, and not care.
Prices? Heh. How long is a piece of string? Check out other photographers in your area, to get a feel for the market you are aiming to get.
