Anyone on here try using a macro tube with a Nikon D5000. I bought one a while back and never could get it to work. Obviously the auto focus won't work but ewveything is pitch dark even in the daylight. I know I loose any apature control and such, but I dunno if I am doing something wrong or if it just flat out will not work. Eventually just gonna buy a macro lense anyways but just curious, =)
I don't have D5000, but I have used an extension tube with my D90. I've not had any problems with mine and the auto focus works, it's just extremely slow and sensitive to any slight amount of movement. I wish I had better answers for you. Do you know someone else with a camera it would fit on? If so, see if it works on theirs.
I have a set of basic tubes with no electronics, so I have to set my aperture prior to installing the lens on the tubes & manual focus. On my Canon 50D I set my aperture and then hold the DOF preview button while removing the lens. This locks the aperture in that position. When I install the tubes & lens back on the camera I adjust ISO & shutter speed to suit my shot. Hope this helps!
@bk12racing Mike, I have some basic extension tunes (no electronics) which I use with my canon. I try to use my tripod any time I use them and have a slower shutter speed than I normally would which brightens the photo.
Not useful if you're wanting to capture a fast movign insect though
