Excluding cameras and lenses, what odd things have you bought over the months for your project?
On Thursday I bought some mirrored tiles for reflection photos, today I bought a birdfeeder and seed. I'm trying to tell myself it's to help the birds over winter but in reality I bought it in hope of some bird photos.
I have bought many flowers, real and artificial, glass vases, lemonade and many more with a photo in mind.
I can't be the only one, so tell me, what have you bought?
Well, aside from the lenses and other gear (which I would've gotten around to buying anyways) - I bought some spectacular sweaters, nerdy 70's glasses and horrific matching T-shirts for my "Awkward Family Portrait" series.
@emmar84 Haha Emma- such a great question!! I'm laughing because it's so true. I have found myself buying one or two odd things just because they'll be interesting to shoot- or because I need them for a specific shot. The two that come immediately to mind are my $3.98 tomato- a ridiculous price- but I thought it would be really neat to photograph and last week I bought a little blue car for the book-word-challenge, but justified the purchase by thinking I could pass it along to my grandson when I'm done with it (he's just turned 1!). Although it doesn't involve purchasing, I have seen things in the store I'm tempted to purchase, but instead of buying them- I just pull out my camera and take shots in the store. Yes, you do get some interesting looks from other shoppers!!
I have a rule, I will only buy it if it can be re-purposed (food, vase, flowers), but the one thing I did was buy posterboard and matting in different colors for backdrop back in February. Funny thing is, I rarely pull them out lately, but hopefully will use them when it gets cold again.
I bought both black and white trifold foam board to use as backdrops. I haven't bought much in the way of props, but the year isn't over yet.
In terms of photography equipment (excluding camera and lenses), I bought a cheap tripod and wish I'd spent a whole lot more on a GOOD one (mine is really flimsy so I rarely use it). I splurged a little by purchasing a high quality polarizing filter and some better glass lens protectors. And one of the best purchases (and least expensive) was a remote from my camera. Love, LOVE it!
Flowers, scrapbook paper for backdrops (which are also being re-purposed into DIY coasters), parking permit to park by the local river, a membership at California Academy of Sciences... I am sure there is more but these are the top of the list!
@olivetreeann I have whipped out my camera multiple times in stores! Especially at the flower displays! I can't afford to buy them often so I take a picture... you know, because it will last longer! LOL
Tickets, tickets to a butterfly farm, Dalles dam, Maryhill winery, State parks...probably might have gotten around to some of the places, but I've made hubbie travel all over Oregon and Minnesota to photo some bridge, water etc. So probably the most expensive thing is gas!
@emmar84 I bought a white poster board and a book about my camera! :) I would like to buy a good book for a beginning photographer, not to technical...any ideas?
