Selective Colouring

November 16th, 2011
Hi people,
I was just wondering what everyone uses when doing selective colour editing on their picture. I would greatly appreciated everyone's opinions and thoughts.
Thanks so much! :)

PhotoShop Elements 9. Masked around the Kodachrome box, enlarged it to make sure I had all of the box and nothing else, then converted the rest of the photo to B&W.

I use isplash. Easy to use as well as being an inexpensive app. I don't use it a lot but it is alway grand to have in the armoury.

@kitcat29 here's the first photo that popped in my head that I did selective coloring o with picnik, it's a detailed photo so it too a little bit of time. But picniknis super easy to use.

I used to only have Picasa (free downloadable from Google) which is handy and easy but only makes a circle of selective colour that you can enlarge but not fit to the outlines of a certain subject. If that is what you need, it can look quite nice:

If you choose a very sharp border of that circle you can even paint a moon that wasn't there before:

But Photoshop is much easier to just select one specific colour or a certain area to be coloured:

I use either picnik, GIMP or Photoshop Elements 7, whichever I have up and running when I'm working on the photo. All are quick and easy to use.

I use Photoshop CS5, create a new layer and use the quick select tool then copy to a new layer. Then go back to the original layer and convert to black and white. flatten layers and there you go, quick and easy.

I use Aperture. Make the photo B&W, then brush away the B&W to reveal original color. I just figured this out recently!
