I'm looking to "upgrade" from Picnik photo editing software. I am on a budget and have started researching the free web based photo editing options. I'm a beginner so ease of use is important.
What photo editing software do you use?
Have you tried any of the free sites (Picasa, Window Live, etc)?
@michelletyre Although I use both Photoshop and ViewNX 2 pretty exclusively, I've also dabbled in http://pixlr.com/. I was actually surprised at how much you can do on the site. You might check it out!
I use photofiltre from sonic free to download.. and very good edit program. all my photos Ive edited using this one or photoscape another free program. they are great when on a budget and will help you get to photoshop...
@michelletyre I highly recommend for anyone that wants the power 'esque of photoshop to try gimp..
.at first it can seem a bit hard...its free...its powerful...I have pretty much broken away from picnik's features and am using gimp more and more..
there are many plug ins one of my new favorites is gimic with some really amazing manipulation tools etc...
my wife has learned so much just from youtube tutorials and has become proficient not only at editing, masking, but more amazing complex works such as digital painting which knocks my proverbial socks off!
I have learned to do a lot just from playing around with it and my wife amazes me everyday teaching me a new step to take.
You may want to try photoshop one day but after using gimp and taking the time to learn what its capable of you may very well say photowhat? and stick with gimp
I echo what Trevor (@loztsoul) says about GIMP, it's free and isn't actually that hard to use and there are so many online tutorials. Also in the summer I purchased Photoshop Elements 7, I found in online at play.com for about £20 and I had some birthday money so thought I'd try that out, now I go between that, pinick and GIMP.
I too would go with gimp it is an awesome bit of kit and because its open source there is a vast catalogue of add ons, scripts brushes e.t.c.to play with to your hearts content
I am currently trying Pixelmator in a 30 day free trial. I am in love. There are lots of tutorials on the Apple website and can do LOADS of edits. It's $30, which isn't bad for software. I also have Aperture where I do the technical edits like saturation, exposure, cropping etc. Love that software too. It depends what you want to do with your photos. I suggest, use the 30 day free trials before you buy. It will help you find your perfect fit.
I am using Pixelmator, and love it! It's the same set up as PhotoShop but only costs $30!!!
@4stories I was using Gimp this past summer, and even though I am geeky, I thought it was a PIA to use. The only thing I liked better than in Photoshop is that its Magic Wand tool worked better.
@michelletyre I use PhotoStudio, the image editing software that have similar features as Photoshop but much more easier to edit photos with and more economical in price.
