I have been asked to photograph a woman and her family while she is pregnant with twins as a surrogate. Her own kids are all 12-16 years old, and the family she is carrying the babies for will be receiving the photo as a gift for the holidays, and have expressed wanting to share it with the babies in the future so they are aware of their own history.
This is definitely NOT a maternity session, but I need to make sure the woman looks pregnant while including 3 teenagers in the photo. She is currently 27 weeks along with twins, so I know her baby bump is well developed.
Just looking for ideas so this doesn't turn out cheesy. Any input or helping with brainstorming is appreciated. :)
Oh, I guess it's important to note that I will be shooting this in studio-lit conditions. :)
@sdpace A couple of ideas keep popping into my head but they feel pretty lame. Like, having some gifts piled around or in their hands, because their family is giving "gifts" to the other family.
@beautifulthing yeah, I think anything "too" creative might feel forced. @dmortega no, can't do both at the same time with this shoot. they are checking with the hospital on having a photographer at the birth that they have also asked me to do, so I hope I can do that and get both families together at that time with the babies. :)
Have everyone wear black except the mom, put her in white and have them stand around her almost providing a backdrop for her bump to stand out against.
There was this shot a while back, on which you could only see a woman's tummy and a guy holding a pumpkin in front of his tummy - it was brilliant and not cheesy at all! Maybe the teenagers could hold something like that? I can't find the shot at the moment but maybe somebody else can.
Is she 100% surrogate or did she donate her eggs? Is the child partially hers? I like that they are all open about this. It will make life so much nicer for everyone. I was thinking about the gifts. Will her kids be giving gifts to the baby? Maybe they can bring them unwrapped to hold.
Hmmm ... maybe something as simple as having a picture of the adopting family in the picture with the surrogate and her family. It would tie them together for future reference.
