My husband and I have been "sharing" our Canon 60D for about a year now but it's time to each have our own. I originally ordered him a T3i but we haven't opened it yet because I'm considering having him use the 60D and I get a 7D. I love the heftier camer in my hand and many of the features of the 7D but wondered what my fellow 365-ers that have a 7D think of it???
I also have been looking at the 7d but its been out for 2 yrs. You know Canon has to be coming out with a 7dII/8d soon. I will probably hold out for a few months unless I come up on one cheap. Good luck with your decision it's an awesome camera.
I would suggest the 7D all the way. There are rumors of a 7D Mark II coming out but the price point will be significantly higher as it will be Full Frame. The 7D will take you a long way.

Thanks so much! When I bought my 60D a year ago I almost bought the 7D but thought it might be "too much" for me since the 60D is my first DSLR but I think I'd really like the 7D and, after using the 60D, I think my husband would enjoy keeping the 60D for himself instead of going "smaler" with a T3i. There's quite a difference in the hold and, like some of you said, the weight of the 60D and 7D is great! I think it helps with camera shake, too, since the lighter weight camera would move more with your body????
I loooove my 7D & I use it with a grip attached as well!
I prefer the heavier weight as it seems to steady me a bit more than others, I used to have a 400D which I added a grip to & have been hooked on the size ever since! Now I love the size & extra weight of my 7D :)
Wait for the D400 and the D800 or you can get the D300s which is a tank in all weather,
D400 takes the place of the D300s
D800 takes the place of the D700 wait until the prices come down a bit
This is only if yer going nikon, if you luv Canaon yes stick with it,,
@eddyj - I am drawn to the Canon, Eddy, and that 7D is calling my name. Price-wise, that's about the highest I want to jump...it's even past what I want to spend but I think it will be worth it. I like my 60D, too, so I've even toyed with just getting another one of those! Such decisions!!!!!!
I have the T2i (almost the same as the T3i minus the articulating screen) and I feel that I already need something more. I wish I had a camera that I had more control over (ISO settings, speed, focal points, etc) and one that does better in lower light settings. Don't get me wrong, I think the T2i is a great camera, but I am already wanting the next best thing. I am currently saving up for the 7D, but I might postpone that purchase if they come out with a new 5D an the beginning of next year.
@onarom - Thanks for your help. I loose a couple of my dial settings like "landscape, no flash, etc" that I have on my 60D if I jump to the 7D. I just really discovered the "no flash" setting and, even though it's an auto setting, I find times when I like the camera deciding for me as I'm still learning. I would say I do more in manual than auto now after a year of shooting with a DSLR but...am I ready for the 7D??? I figure I'll grow into it. There's quite a price jump between the 7D and the 5D.
I don't see anything wrong with using automatic settings as long as you get the photos you want. I usually use AV mode unless I am using a flash, then I prefer Manual mode (it's a manual flash/not TTL).
I know that the 7D would be more than enough for me, but something about the idea of having a full-frame camera would probably motivate me to save up an additional $1000. Especially if they do release the 5D mark III. But the way my finances are looking right now, I will have my T2i for a while :/
