Ideas For Subjects??

December 18th, 2011
Hey Guys and Gals,
I have been really stuck lately for ideas for the subjects for my photos. I have been stuck at home just about all the time, and was wondering if anyone had any ideas for me that I could take some photographs of.
In advance thank you for any ideas that people have suggested!

My advice for this is don't think so much about what the subject is, but more how the subject is displayed, lighted, composed, elements added, ect. I am shooting my project with just one subject. (a bottle) pick the most mundane thing in your house and try to figure out how to make it interesting. hope this helps a little.

@kitcat29 Please feel free to have a look through my project - recently, I was sick for some time, and I was really having to hunt far and wide for things to shoot in the house! I've shot perfume bottles on the windowsill, the staircase outside my door, statues and toys I have in the house, tree branches from my bedroom window, you name it. I've taken pictures of my other cameras, even. I agree with @shuterfly - pick the most mundane things from your house and find a way to make them interesting, whether its with lighting or composition or editing. Good luck - you can do it! :)

First of all, I play a game called 100 Steps when I'm stuck. Go someplace. Park, zoo, college campus, lake, wherever. You have 100 steps to take 100 photos. Then you go home.

Modified for being stuck at home...10 Steps. Pick a room. You are allowed ten steps. Then you must shoot a photo.

I just introduced the world to BLOCKhead yesterday. He is an interesting subject that will pop up in my photos from time to time from now on.

As for other subjects:

Food
Furniture
Fixtures
Architecture
Make a visual catalog of your house and belongings
Clothes
Chase the sun light around your house
Selfies
Water
Show us your house from the POV of the floor, then get on a chair
Pets
Then...do all this in B&W

Try these websites: http://www.scrapjazz.com/topics/Photography/Ideas/ http://www.squidoo.com/thingstophotograph http://www.jwrider.com/photo/ideas.htm

or create your own photo challenge series, such as:
A-Z challenge. Day 1 = something begining with A, day 2 = B etc
A wedding anniversary material a day http://www.weddingsgalore.com/anniversary.html
A colour a day
A selfie a day for 7 days, 30 days?

There is a really great website that i came across back in April that gave you a photo challenge for every day, but I can't remember the URL. I'll ask my sister, cause she told me about it!

@jasonbarnette --- Your technique is smiliar to what I recommend only I say take pictures wherever you are sitting or standing at the moment. Take them both near and far and play with the settings. Use whatever the camera allows and get creative without moving, except to turn.

When i'm stuck at home I photograph from my window (architecture, lights, sunset, clouds, reflection from a window open...) or yoy can always find something in your home, may be if you're out of idea I always find "one color" is very helpfull. Like focus on red or yellow and you'll find many many things to photograph. Good luck!
